Re: Series 2 aesthetics

Are the LEDs "E" marked, like bulbs have to be? I have had a ticking off from the authorities for the reversing lights on the MOT test

as usual, not stopped using mine yet. Nice 350km trip yesterday from Austria to Switzerland, and re-did the RainX today.

Re: my soft top leaks

Aldridge in Wolverhampton did it. So it was a long way for me to go and saved you the continental drive - but I would highly recommend any continental drive in the E

Re: my soft top leaks

Had mine done recently by Aldridge. There were problems with the frame sitting right and the hood pan needed to be extended a little. After a few attempts and some neoprene packing strips, it seals perfectly. One thing to look out for is a poor fitting chrome strip along the top of the windscreen. W...

Brilliant. Except where the pistons are left to drop on the floor... and a few other bits.

Re: Re-chroming side and tail lights

There are also these guys who have done some work for me. http://www.chromerestorationspecialist.co.uk/about-us/how-to-find-us/ The price is probably about the same as Castle Chrome. That's the price for getting parts redone and fitting properly vs repros with thin chrome that don't. I removed all t...

Aldridge have some excellent rubbers that they use. They would fit for you very well or supply.

Re: S1 Door latch

sounds like the spring inside the casing. either the spring has broken or has snagged. Further careful dismantling will show what is wrong.

Re: E types sold in Kings Lynn Today. Some Prices.

Red Series 1 coupe 185 Price TBA This was pretty tired, been painted a few times and had been thrown together. A major restoation project but worthwhile. Nasty section cut out of the bulkhead, plenty of corrosion, 90% complete, 3.8 block lhd. https://i.postimg.cc/43yXy7Rv/20190126-125831.jpg That's...

Re: Buying MWS wheels

In Switzerland at least, they are not too bothered about the tyre dimensions - as long as the speedo reads correctly and doesn't rub anywhere on the body. The tyre rating, top speed, weight etc. is important and must conform to the vehicle manufacturers minimum specifications.

Re: Buying MWS wheels

I think the problem is not so much which tyres should be fitted, but rather that any replacement rims need a TUV approval. Talk to MWS. I did have a brief chat with them and mentioned this many moons ago. They were certainly aware of the TUV requirement, and may be able to supply the necessary certi...

Re: Buying MWS wheels

I know. and Switzerland is usually even stricter. The other option is to have a set of original wheels, powder coat them so they look reasonable and make sure you use tyres that can go on both. I've got 3 wheel sets at the moment. Original set of 4 - no tyres MWS - 205/15/70 Vredstein Summer D-type ...

Re: Buying MWS wheels

I was lucky. TUV assumed the wheels were the original ones to the car as they were spoked.

Re: Correct Oil for freshly rebuilt gearbox

Castrol Hypoy (EP90) is the Jaguar recommended. I use Millers Oil NanoDrive CRX 75W90 NT+ Alternatives are (amongst others) Mobil One ATF 320 Royal Purple Synchromax Redline MTF (MT-90 75W90 GL-4) Do not use conventional 80w-90w gear oil. I'd advise changing after running in for 500 miles if it is f...

Re: Speed limit Autobahn

I gave the eType a good run between Stuttgart and Munich 2 days before Christmas. 206 km/h according to GPS. I'm sure it had a bit more to give but my throttles aren't opening fully at the moment. Maintained between 190 and 200 for quite some distance as the road was relatively clear. Overtook a BMW...

where near Stuttgart specialises in eTypes? Would be useful to know, for emergencies for me, or also people on continental trips. That might be worth a sticky thread or KB article. Steve/David?

The first one goes to a lucas tab attached to the bulkead, pretty much directly behind the rev counter.

I changed this to an ring, as the tab can come off.

Re: Buying MWS wheels

I originally had Daytons on mine 15x5 supplied by SNG. There were problems with them not being true. SNG eventually swapped them, but the replacements were also not good. Later it was found one had damage to the interior edge causing the issues. They were replaced with MWS who removed the Daytons, f...

Yes, 205/70 R15. and bump stops in place. While not a factor for many people, I have experienced very low wear with these tyres.

I run the 15x5 MWS wheels, with Vredstein 205 tyres. Very happy with the whole setup.
