Re: Fuel tank gaskets suitable for fuels with ethanol in.
A reputable supplier to a reputable restorer replaced the one on my SII tank top cover with a non-cork one that was "ethanol safe". It melted within 3 months, worryingly at the petrol station when I filled it to the top resulting in petrol pouring out of the seal into the boot and out near the exhau...

Re: EZ STEERING GTJOEY ITS A NEW WORLD!
I’ve been following this on JL Joey and finding it very interesting. I must be getting weak in my old age as I am finding the steering quite heavy, even with 185 tyres. I am thinking about making my own system though, possibly MGF or Corsa B or C. I can’t justify the expense of the EZ system. You m...

Re: First foray into porting
As always, 9/10ths of the job is overcoming the trepidation and just getting on with it. I know that feeling! Hat's off to you or should that be valve guides out? I remember reading, not sure if it was Des Hamill's book or not, that the inlet passages should not be totally smooth. Some turb...

Re: Fitting windscreen top caps
All the replacement screen caps I have seen from the "usual suppliers" do not match the originals on my S2. The fit and shape is not good and can lead to water leakage. Very much a case to repair originals if you can.

Are the LEDs "E" marked, like bulbs have to be? I have had a ticking off from the authorities for the reversing lights on the MOT test

as usual, not stopped using mine yet. Nice 350km trip yesterday from Austria to Switzerland, and re-did the RainX today.

Re: my soft top leaks
Had mine done recently by Aldridge. There were problems with the frame sitting right and the hood pan needed to be extended a little. After a few attempts and some neoprene packing strips, it seals perfectly. One thing to look out for is a poor fitting chrome strip along the top of the windscreen. W...

Re: Re-chroming side and tail lights
There are also these guys who have done some work for me. http://www.chromerestorationspecialist.co.uk/about-us/how-to-find-us/ The price is probably about the same as Castle Chrome. That's the price for getting parts redone and fitting properly vs repros with thin chrome that don't. I removed all t...

sounds like the spring inside the casing. either the spring has broken or has snagged. Further careful dismantling will show what is wrong.

Red Series 1 coupe 185 Price TBA This was pretty tired, been painted a few times and had been thrown together. A major restoation project but worthwhile. Nasty section cut out of the bulkhead, plenty of corrosion, 90% complete, 3.8 block lhd. https://i.postimg.cc/43yXy7Rv/20190126-125831.jpg That's...

Re: Buying MWS wheels
In Switzerland at least, they are not too bothered about the tyre dimensions - as long as the speedo reads correctly and doesn't rub anywhere on the body. The tyre rating, top speed, weight etc. is important and must conform to the vehicle manufacturers minimum specifications.

Re: Buying MWS wheels
I think the problem is not so much which tyres should be fitted, but rather that any replacement rims need a TUV approval. Talk to MWS. I did have a brief chat with them and mentioned this many moons ago. They were certainly aware of the TUV requirement, and may be able to supply the necessary certi...

Re: Buying MWS wheels
I know. and Switzerland is usually even stricter. The other option is to have a set of original wheels, powder coat them so they look reasonable and make sure you use tyres that can go on both. I've got 3 wheel sets at the moment. Original set of 4 - no tyres MWS - 205/15/70 Vredstein Summer D-type ...

I was lucky. TUV assumed the wheels were the original ones to the car as they were spoked.
