Re: Can you guess what it is yet

I don't pretend to understand ebay but the advert was live 6hrs ago with an end date in 2 days time. The seller's username was "bajanrover". The ad has now vanished but a search of sold items shows the same car with the same image having been sold on 31 Dec 23 and the seller's name was "crazylandrov...

Re: Help with heating ventilation controls on dashboard

Hi ? Congratulations on getting your S3. It appears to be a 1971or 72 LHD 2+2 auto with A/C and if ex USA may still have all the emissions kit under the bonnet. This kit is only covered in the US versions of the handbook (red or tan colored covers) so would be the best version to go for. If you don'...

Re: S2 pre engaged starter solonoid

Hi Steve, If you do decide to dismantle the solenoid this may help if the solenoid is similar. It's years since I last did it but the end cover can be wriggled off the winding wires eventually by keeping the solder molten. Re: Auto trans rear engine mount

Hi ?, Not so strange really as this reinforcing plate was only introduced fairly late in S3 production and I don't have one. As per your image from the PM, it was only introduced from engine number 7S14001 which means August/Sept 1973, so most S3s don't have one. This rather poor image shows C41266 ...

Re: v12 stromberg jet size

AFAIK there was only one jet size but various needles depending on year, market emissions requirement, car model. Check with Burlens who make them - https://zenithcarb.co.uk/.
Search this forum and on https://forums.jag-lovers.com, there have been plenty of discussions about setting these carbs up.

Re: Independent inspection

Hi Mike, For a Concours 1966 S1 2+2, Hagerty's valuation tool currently gives £53k. Concours OTS £144k and FHC £105k. Only guides of course. Not nearby, but for an inspection/valuation CMC at Bridgenorth possibly. (https://www.classic-motor-cars.co.uk). I don't know if M&C Wilkinson offer this servi...

Re: Height Drop at Front Series 3 V12

Hi Paddy, Are the TBs original to the car? If so are they fitted to the same sides as when removed? They are stamped LH and RH with, originally, a red band on the RH and blue band on the LH, but someone in the past may have refitted them to the wrong sides which would have resulted in the original d...

Re: Series 3 Torsion bar setting

Hi Bill, Thank you for providing the first solid evidence that the early torsion bars were a different diameter to the later ones. Can you confirm that the bars fitted are of the shorter length of rear spline, do not protrude through the rear mounting bracket as the later bars do and that there is a...

Re: New to Forum - Englishman in Belgium

AFAIK the only body number identification on S3s, other than on the bulkhead plate, was on an embossed tag held on by two rivets, behind the stainless steel trim plate at the RH rear, as shown here on this August 1971 car. This location was used from 1971 to 1973 on US cars but for 1974 it was reloc...

Although these are homemade JD40s, this is how they are used as per the ROM. They lock the sprocket to the parking bracket.

Re: Series 3 Torsion bar setting

The clue in the ROM is the car numbers given in brackets, which says "From Car Nos 1S50065 and 1S70413" which are 2+2s. There is no mention of 1S1xxx and 1S2xxxx Car Numbers which would be OTS. In 1970, out of the first 590 cars produced, only 3 were OTS, so given that 476 had early bars they may we...

Re: Series 3 Torsion bar setting

Hi Colin Sorry, when you said in #4 that your car was the early type I hadn't noticed that it says 72 OTS in the footnote, so it would have the later type torsion bars, which are as you describe, 0.75"dia with extended rear splines. Only 2+2s had the early type, up to 1S50064 RHD and 1S70412 LHD. Th...

Re: Series 3 Torsion bar setting

Hi Colin Not directly relevant to the original question so apologies to Mark for that, but would you mind confirming that your early torsion bars are 0.75" dia, ie the same as the later ones which were extended beyond the working length to accomodate fitting the JD43 tensioning tool. I have taken it...
