Re: Series one Independent rear suspension (IRS) overhaul?

Thanks Tom.
I am intending to do the same swap as you. My replacement 2.88 is also not leaking and all looking good on the inside. So, fingers crossed.

Re: Series one Independent rear suspension (IRS) overhaul?

Thank you all for this great advice. Exactly what I was hoping for. Much better to go into a job like this with some guidance. I will certainly ask for the superior Timken bearings and fit all new brake pipes and hoses. Very interesting info on early and later diffs. Seems sensible to replace all th...

Re: Series one Independent rear suspension (IRS) overhaul?

Oh yes, half shaft UJ’s, of course. Now added. And thanks for the tip on the felt seal swap for lip type. I‘ve also added anti role bar bushes to the list. Thank you for the advice on the handbrake compensator and brake bleed extenders and pics too. I see you have vented discs on the rear. My rear b...

Series one Independent rear suspension (IRS) overhaul?

Hello to all. Some advice from the collective and those who have overhauled their IRS please. What parts will i need to complete this task? It looks very much like it has never been out of the car before. Everything is just about working including the handbrake although the brakes were marginal on t...

Re: door locks

My 66 2+2 has separate door locks too.
I remember reading somewhere that the series 1 2+2 were made like this.
I can't think why Jaguar would have done this but I am sure someone on here will know?

Re: Some advice on strange brake behaviour please.

Thanks again for the advice, very helpfull. I’ve been investigating the brakes further. Bled the front brakes again, disconnected all the vacuum lines and checked them for damage and possible collapse. The system is holding good vacuum which is opened to atmospheric pressure by the reaction valve, s...

Re: Some advice on strange brake behaviour please.

Hi Christopher and Steve. Many thanks for the link the workshop manual and advice. Yes, the diagrams are the same as the Haynes manual and as on my car. I did MOT servo test. My pedal does not move further down as expected when pressed and then the engine is started. I think I have confused you by s...

Some advice on strange brake behaviour please.

Having just put the E back together after left to RHD conversion I was surprised by very hard brake peddle and ineffective brakes. The master cylinder was moved and the large bore hydraulic pipe joining this to the servo slave cylinder connected. I have checked and rechecked the rerouted the vacuum ...

Torsion barrubbing strip???

Hello everyone. Having completed my steering and front suspension refresh and all the mechanical parts of the left to right hand drive conversion, I’m now thinking about the splash guards and mud shields. The torsion bar mud shields (BD28660/1) have what I can best describe as webbing fixed/glued to...

I guess I will end up turning one myself out of a brass and plating it, if one doesn’t turn up.
Thank you for the offer.

Re: Knob for heated rear glass switch

Hi Carsten
Yes. I was thinking of doing something similar. I do not have a heated rear window but since I now have the holes in my dashboard and switch/lamp I just need the knob. Like you I was thinking of the overdrive in my 2+2 and this switch would be an ideal way of operating this.

Knob for heated rear glass switch

Would any of you know where I may find a knob as on the heated rear window switch as shown in the pic. The second hand RHD dashboards I purchased for my LHD 66 2+2 were identical in the opposite hand except for the heated rear screen switch and lamp. The dash did come with these but the knob is miss...

Pictures of the brake servo fluid bottle mount please.

I am in the process of converting my 66 2+2 to RHD. When I look at the RHD mounting for the servo fluid bottle, suppliers seem to offer more than method of supporting the metal band that goes around the bottle: Some seem to offer a bracket fitted on to the narrower of the blanking plates that covers...
