Re: Boot floor cover plate over rear axle

Adrian : if the alloy plate you have fits but is lacking the appropriate indentations, I can trace one of mine out and send you a drawing. The alloy should be reasonably easy to beat with a hammer using a wood former Hello Christoepher Thank you for the offer but I think I will hold out in hope of ...

Re: Boot floor cover plate over rear axle

Thank you all. I cannot get hold of Richard Smith, they never answer their phone. I was hoping I may get a reply from the States later on today or tomorrow. Hutson do not have any and I doubt Ulrik will make me one as he tends to make parts for his retorations only. It is quite a complicated bit of ...

Boot floor cover plate over rear axle

Hello I wonder if anyone can help. I am after the boot floor panel which is effectively an access panel to the top of the rear axle on the early flat floor and drop floor cars. I bought a new one and it is just a flat peice of aluminium and I am not impressed, so now I am looking for an old original...

Out side bonnet latch quiry

Hello
Does anyone know if the 4 captive nuts for the bonnet latch, 2 below the voltage regulator and 2 by the chassis plate, were carried over on the vehicle bodies after the outside latch was dropped?

I am puzzled. Why are you using the 10" pressure plate with a 9.5" disc? The 9.5" diaphragm pressure plate is the one to use with the 9.5" disc. If you use the 10" plate, check that the inner diameter of the friction material on the disc is not smaller than the inner diameter of the face of the pre...

OK everyone, I have the flywheel back from being machine. It has been skimmed and balanced along with the pressure plate and pegged for the 10" diaphragm pressure plate. I have had to use the 9 1/2" clutch plate from the Landrover Defender 300 Tdi, because this fits the Tremec input shaft, and also ...

Door hinge to A pillar bolt finishes

Hello

A bit more help needed please. Does anyone know the original finish/colour of the door hinge to A pillar bolts?
So far I have seen gold passivate, painted body colour and zinc, and even metric m8 wound into 5/16 nut plates.

Re: Plating

Think you will find that the Restriction on the use of hazardous substances (ROHS) and very possibly other directives prohibit the use of cadmium in most industries now. Aviation has an exemption...for now. I suspect this means cadmium plating is now now not possible...unless you can find someone w...

Hello Eric I think there was more clearance than that on my release lever, but with the multiplication ratio of the lever it only needs to move a small distance to release the clutch plate. I cannot check it now as the the flywheel and pressure plate have gone away for skimming and balancing, but I ...

Today I finally stripped the front suspension down and found that the only parts that were painted, and that is with black paint, were the torsion bars, everything else was cadmium plated.

Thank you all for your replies. Last week I put the 9 1/2" diaphragm clutch set up onto the flywheel and offered the gearbox onto the engine. Thankfully there was no fouling and it all turned freely. One thing I did find out is that the thrust release bearing for the 10" pressure plate set up has a ...

Thank you all. The bell housing is the original E type. It has been mounted to an adapter plate on the front of the Tremec, so I should not have any trouble with clearance. I just need to know the best clutch to use. I would like to use the 9 1/2" diaphragm unit as it is neater and I am going to bui...

Hello kingzetts

The clutch was slipping on this car quite badly although the clutch plate was OK so I think it was a bad mismatch all round. I will fit the diaphragm cover plate and 9 1/2" clutch plate and check for clearance as you said.

Clutches and Tremec gearboxes on 3.8's

Hello I need a bit of help with a clutch. E type 89 vin number last of the 3.8's. It has a Tremec 5 speed box. The flywheel has 104 teeth. It has been drilled and pegged to accept the large 10" spring type pressure plate which does not look correct to me as there are a set of threaded holes and peg ...

Good luck with the cadmium. I think I managed to phone all of the companies that do cadmium in the UK and no one will do it. If you do find someone let me know or post their details.

Hello Joe

Thank you for the the lead. I have the judging guide but it conveniently leaves out suspension parts.
I have opted to go with the either the dull chrome or zinc finish for all of the parts that were cadmium plated.
