OFFICIAL FACTORY CRAYON/INSCRIBED BODY NUMBER/COLOUR MARKINGS AND UNOFFICIAL SIGNATURES AND INITIALS Thought it might be nice for completeness to have a section on handwritten markings. I have divided this post into official body numbers, official destination markings, official special markings and...

Re: S.1 RHD Speedo Cable Clip C17140
Hi David This is 875039 - showing the bell housing clip and the 'P' clip attached to the top brake master cylinder inside bolt. I think this was always the configuration for LHD. https://i.postimg.cc/RVdR7fJ2/13-C52969-80-AD-4787-AFFA-3-B88-B411-B367.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/K8Y5Jznj/57074724-3-BA9-...

Re: chassis 62
Do you mind if I say a few words. As someone trying to restore an early car, from the photographs I can appreciate the work and attention to detail that has gone into this car. On the other hand, there are some features that have been highlighted that could be improved upon by the new owner, if they...

Re: Mysterious holes nearby the fuel pump
Hi This is not definitive as there were IMHO considerable changes throughout early production. 875039. The two pop rivets (seen on early car and held a wire tag on the inside) have 'rusted’ away and the external 'wire' tag has been broken off. The external 'wire’ tags were only present for a shortis...

Boot Boards aka 'Cover Assemblies' The early (no idea for how long) Cover Assembly over the Petrol Tank did not have the rubber buffers (BD4321 x 3) in the support strip as found on later cars. Early floorboard assembly showing original support strip and later painted strip: https://i.imgur.com/T1j...

Cable Strapping Earlier in this thread there was a discussion about cable strapping - and there was ‘one missing’ - only photographs of 20 instead of 21 straps. This is the last strap - holding the header tank overflow to the lower frame. Strap in lower right of photograph https://i.imgur.com/rYE7Z...

Re:
Bulkhead access holes Another little know variation is in the construction of the inside of the bulkhead - the access holes at either side of the bulkhead are different sizes - larger on the later cars. Small 'circular' holes on inside of bulkhead - also showing the attachment brackets for the inst...

Re: FACTORY FIT - Series 1 3.8
Hi Tadek Thanks for taking an interest. I have amended the photo descriptions above. The photographs are looking backwards at the panel on which the number plate is mounted. On the illustration below the clip holding the boot release cable is on the right and the two clips for the reversing light ca...

Boot Clips I do not think this has been covered before. C18461 is a clip for the boot lid lock release cable - not shown in the first spares book so introduced later. The clip secures the cable on the run from the RH side of the boot to the release mechanism, It clips under the rear ledge that hold...

REPRODUCTION PARKER-KALON SCREWS The fuel tank board was initially retained by five Parker-Kalon 'J' type set screws #BD19059/1 and one self tapping (hex head?) screw #BD20641/1. The set screws had flange type countersunk cup washers #BD18545 whilst the self-tapper had a special washer #BD541/34. Pl...

Paint Matching
I just thought I would share some information on paint matching - and striving for originality. I went to all the normal suppliers for Opalescent Dark Green (quoting the normal paint reference code) and the results were bizarre - to say the least. The colour supplied by Jaguar Heritage was also inco...

Early Bonnet Feature
Front Diaphragm Assembly Just taking the bonnet apart on car number 875039. The LH front diaphragm normally mounts the 8 pin connector for the front lamp harness. On the early bonnets the RH diaphragm also had the mounting hole for the male connector! In the pictures below the factory modification ...

Handbrake Compensator The handbrake compensator changed during production, #C18374 being fitted to early cars and #C20402 being fitted from chassis numbers #850555, #877567, #860664, #886263 and subsequent. The later compensator has a longer 'arm'. Early Handbrake Compensator #C18374 : http://i.img...

Rear Rope Seal Went to see Dick Bradley who is overhauling a 62 3.8 engine for me that is suffering from a poor overhaul in the US! Several interesting bits of information gathered today - new to me anyway. Dick mentioned that most off the problems with the rear rope oil seal were caused by incorre...
