Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Lovely colour!

Stateside car? I thought that no S3 cars came with wires.
Is it a conversion?
Or am I wrong?

Re: High oil pressure

80psi (full scale) on a cold start is quite normal and is what my unrestored V12 has always shown for the last 50 years! However, last year I had the engine out and took the opportunity to install a 'wet' mechanical gauge. The new gauge is scaled to 100psi and the engine still records 80psi on start...

Re: dyeing the sunbleached rear carpet on an OTS S3

Thank you to James and Colin for their replies to my post.

So, the conclusion is that the carpet cannot be dyed but can be painted, with the right paint!

I will search for carpet paint, the next obstacle will be colour.

Many thanks

Re: Radiator Grille

Hi Bill Got it! I was confused as to how the clips could possibly be used with the chrome finisher snug against the bodywork. They can't, in that scenario, but I had not realised that the chrome finisher actually protrudes slightly below the curved body line in order to allow the clips to fit inside...

Re: Radiator Grille

Hi Bill The top of the grill is secured by two clips which uses self tappers to fasten to two 'tangs' which are welded to the inside of the air intake, as per picture. https://i.postimg.cc/j2NHX67K/2-F626174-1095-4090-8865-536686711643.jpg Are you saying that there should be two further 'tangs' weld...

Re: Radiator Grille

Thank you, Bill, for a very comprehensive answer to my post. On thinking back I remember, sometime in the 70's, I was told by a garage that one of their mechanics had accidentally driven my car into a sign pole on their parking lot, damaging the front of the bonnet, and that they accepted the respon...

Did you ever chase down the cause of the strong petrol smell?
BTW, what is your name?

dyeing the sunbleached rear carpet on an OTS S3

The 'carpet' that extends behind the seats up to the rear window of my S3 OTS has been severely sunbleached and I wonder if anyone has had the same problem and how they dealt with it without replacing it. i.e. Dye? If so, any particular type of dye? https://i.postimg.cc/Tw2rcJT9/11-E2-A761-4-B46-462...

Re: Radiator Grille

Judging by the parts drawing, I think that the number 12 in the SNG drawing is depicted as the shape of the BD39095 but when you click on it the shape is that of the BD38867 ! To clarify, my S3 has not been molested and when I removed the chrome grill and the top finisher I did not find a clip with ...

Re: Radiator Grille

The only other clips on my S3 radiator intake top chrome mouldings are BD38867. These clips sit at either end of the chrome moulding and fit OVER the strip ends and are secured with a self tapper. I do not have, and cannot visualise how they are used, the BD39095 clips. Where are they on the parts d...

Re: Radiator Grille

THe top curved chrome moulding around the air intake is held in place by two 'button' pop rivets. The chrome clips previously shown are to cover the ends of the top and bottom mouldings where they meet at the side. The pic is of an unmolested S3 sans chrome mouldings and bumpers. https://i.postimg.c...

Re: Rear Number Plate Panel Finisher

Yes, I do use that stuff via a 20ltr backpack, but, even though I live in the country, the muck that falls out of the sky is unbelievable, so I need to pressure wash virtually every year anyway, and its a big and dirty job.
But when it is finished it sets my S3 off perfectly ........

Re: Misfire Petrol related?

The recommendation to try running for longer periods of time is called an 'Italian tune up'. I once bought an MGB from a lady who lived in a town on a small caribbean island. The car was incapable of more than 30mph, but after several runs of eight miles at full throttle the car became alive and bec...

Re: Misfire Petrol related?

The problem is certainly not the use of modern fuels. My V12 runs perfectly well on super grade petrol, and the valve seats were hardened at the factory during manufacture so the lack of lead is no problem either.

If it's of any use, my early '72 OTS is Old English White with a red interior, and the sun visors are black. Can't say about the headlining!

26 mpg? Jeez, my completely stock '72 S3 OTS has never returned more than 17 mpg, even on a sedate run.
