BW12 Vacuum Modulator Valve Removal

Dear All, I hope someone can give me a little advice please - I need to replace my Series 3's vacuum modulator valve from the Borg Warner Model 12 box. I'm fairly sure its failed as I've had a loss of fluid, slip gear on reverse and an acrid smell out of the exhaust. The problem is I just can't seem...

Re: Power Steering Hose Bracket Location

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the tips - I got the bracket installed fine, but for sure the pipes need a little manipulation to sit comfortably. Will just take my time with gentle pressure.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Re: Power Steering Hose Bracket Location

Dear Simon & Bob, This is excellent - all makes sense now and clearly shows where the bracket goes, thank you both so much ! Bob, no need for the extra pictures. I now have the bracket, so will be under the car later. Guys, is there anything else holding/stabilising the pipes at the other (pinion) e...

Power Steering Hose Bracket Location

Hello All, I need some help with where the Power Steering Pump Hose Bracket on right hand drive cars is located/attached to? I've recently had to change my high pressure hose, this and the lower pressure one were secured onto the steering rack with cable ties (well too tight). I see without cable ti...

Re: Oil Filter

Hi Pete,

I have written down in my old parts manual:

Unipart: GFE 155
Crossland: 688
Lucas: F6 493

I trust this is what you're after?

Kind regards,
Andrew

Re: Oil Pressure Advice

Hello All, Firstly my apologies for the lengthy time its taken for an update on this thread. I have had the car back for a year, but thought it wise not to post anything on-line until I was confident issues had been resolved. After getting the car back to the engine builder, he stripped the engine d...

His page, so fair dues I guess?

Hi Richard, Thanks for asking. The car is currently with the engine builder being looked at. Due to both our separate commitments, its only gone back to him recently. Fortunately we're back on speaking terms and working a way forwards. Once he's found the issue with the oil pressure and rectified it...

Andy, When I rebuilt my fan motors, these double connectors leading off the motors were shot. Having used Autosparks for my harnesses, I spoke to them to see if they could help. Apparently they have a special "vacuum" machine to fabricate the connectors and they can only be formed on the wiring cabl...

Thanks for this Steve, I appreciate it.
Article is an interesting read.
Car's going to be looked at by the engine builder, however due to various reasons not until September.
I'll post an update once we have a diagnosis.

Thank you everyone for your advice. Yes, the car does have oil to the correct level and the oil pressure used to be in line with what Steve's car is. I won't be driving the car until its sorted - I just hope it's not going to be an engine out job. Will keep you posted. Thanks again for the tips and ...

Oil Pressure Advice

Hello All, I need some advice/help on oil pressure please. I've read through the archives on here and on the net, but am a little confused on different pressure readings. My car's an automatic and had its engine rebuilt. Its done about 350 miles since completion last August. Recently after around 7 ...

Simon,

Thanks for the tip for the "solid strut", that's a good simple idea. I'm okay for the measurement, should be easy to sort.

Thank you all very much - I'm confident now to open the bonnet and I appreciate the heads up about it going too far forwards without the strut. I've recently installed a "KwikLift" I purchased a few years back in The US, so looking forward to using it without the fear of the bonnet going haywire. I'...

Bonnet Opening Weight/Support

Guys, My apologies for my lack of knowledge here and what might be a simple & obvious answer. I've ever only opened my car's bonnet when on level ground and the weight is supported by this through the overriders. However, if I were to raise my car on a lift about 3' off the ground and open the bonne...

Geoff, Thanks for your input. Its the later type of mirror I have (I think they were called "Oyster"?) with the remote which would be correct for my model year. Hopefully your tip will help others with the Tex type of mirror, great ingenuity! Realistically, I guess I could just judge the location, h...

Driver Door Mirror Location UK Car

Hi All, I've just recently got my car back after a 6 year restoration (I've owned it for 19 years and was driving it up to a couple of years before the restoration started) and I'm not sure if its because I'm now in my mid 40s, or if I'm just used to modern car driving, however I'm missing the use o...
