Re: Restored Car...What to do before putting on the road.
The only thing I would add to all of the excellent recommendations is to check the clutch slave cylinder for operation and for leaks

Re: Engine numbers
Be careful it is not an XJ6 engine. A lot of E-types in the US have had XJ6 engines as replacements. Engine numbers can be notoriously difficult to find. On my 1969 S2 OTS it is on the top of the oil filter housing. i only found it after extensive cleaning using a wire brush on a die grinder when th...

gearbox/shift stick movement
I've recently completed a major restoration and overhaul of my '69 roadster. New bushes, bolts etc everywhere. Having driven it for a couple of 100 miles I'm now getting some movement in the gearstick on acceleration and de-acceleration, most notable going from 2nd to 3rd. Is this simply the gearbox...

Re: Bonett not staying up very high
I'm not sure if this is a spring issue. I think it may be more related to the adjustment of the actual fit of the hinges. There is quite a bit of scope for adjustment of the fit of the hinges and this many be worth of trying to set in a different position

idle speed setting
During my recent restoration I took my carbs off (twin Strombergs). I've put them back as they came off, but now when I start the car without the choke it idles ok at 750-800 rpm. If I blip the throttle, or if I start the car ('69 S2 OTS) with the choke open the idle speed goes up to 1500 rpm. Any i...

Re: Roof/Hood/Spar - to - Door - to Windscreen Adjustments
I've just spent about 2 weeks working with my local body shop to try to fit my hood frame/canopy panel/wooden header etc. It has been one of the toughest jobs I've had on my major restoration of my '69 S2 roadster. First off I re-used my old canopy panel and header that looked very much like yours. ...

Re: Series 2 dashtop
BAS in South Wales supply a plastic top for the dash for the S2 roadster that I believe is the original form. US suppliers tend to supply vinyl to wrap the top. I've bought a dash top from BAS and the grain matches the dash fascia and it comes with the foam pad underneath

I think they closely resemble the captive nuts you find in the back of the bracket that holds the brake and clutch fluid bottles on. It is the way you fasten the bottles to the heat shield.

Re: 9 or 10 inch clutch
I recently went to put a new 9.5 inch diaphragm clutch into my 1969 S2 OTS. I discovered it had a 10 inch diaphragm clutch. I thought all S2s had the 9.5 inch. Anyway the flywheel was drilled for the 9.5 inch as someone else has pointed out the bolt sizes are different, but also the dowels are a dif...
