Re: Steering rack series 3

Hello Bill, I didn't think they were handed. I had to remove the pinch bolt on the CV joint with a grinder, not realising that it was hollow. I inadvertently went slightly too deep and went through into the shaft. I tried welding it but the specialist I took it to said when he tried drawing out the ...

Re: Steering rack series 3

It is the inside of the tower that's damaged.

Know anyone who has an old LHD one as that part is not handed

Steering rack series 3

I have a problem with the pinion in the steering rack and a specialist firm has informed me that it's not mendable as the pinion is no longer made.
I have heard that a FORD (Agh!) rack can be used, but which one ?
Anyone any ideas ?

Re: Auto trans rear engine mount

Are you sure this is correct? Like a lot of others I'm having trouble with this item. I cannot work out the sequence in which this is assembled. The mounting bush has been pushed into the support bracket - Correct If one temporarily ignores the 2 spring seats and the spring itself (mine's a manual) ...

Re: Rear engine mountig

Even more confused now !!
He used 2 spacers with a special washer in between them. The bottom washer has about 6/8 mm hanging out the bottom before the bottom washer and nut is fitted. I'm positive that isn't right as the washer will wear the rubber bush out in no time flat.

Re: Rear engine mountig

Not really Steve, The trouble is I'm not sure if I've got the correct parts. I've checked with SNG but they're not engineers. and the bottom washer is no longer available, so unable to check it. Do you know how long that spacer that fits into the top washer is supposed to be? I have 2 identical ones...

Re: Rear engine mountig

Thanks Steve, but it doesn't help me I'm at the end of my rebuild and when I drove it it was banging against the tunnel. Checking it I realised that when I fitted it didn't have the rubber bush in it at all. Thought it looked odd when I originally fitted it. Purchased a new bush from SNG. The first ...

Rear engine mountig

I thought the rear engine mounting was wrong, and I soon found out that it was a soon as I drove it. Trouble is, I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to look like.
Anyone got a picture of the underside showing the rear engine mounting. Workshop manual's not helpful.

Re: Air in the brakes ?? Series 3 E-type

I think I've cured it !!! I bought one of those pressure self bleeders and to start with I still had the problem, HOWEVER, after a lot of thought I tried pressurizing the rear brake reservoir (left hand down near the screenwash bottle ) opened BOTH bleed nipples, then closing the l.h.one then the r....

Re: Air in the brakes ?? Series 3 E-type

Hi Steve, Initially I had a problem getting anything through the system so by bleeding the front first until I got fluid in the system. After that I did it as per workshop manual. Start with the rear rh then left hand then fronts I've done this 3 times now and all the fluid comes out clear. I'm just...

Air in the brakes ?? Series 3 E-type

When I checked the brakes after my rebuild I found I had a problem. 1. The front brakes were not releasing properly. Cured that with a new master cylinder 2. When I refilled the system and bled it I had almost no rear foot brakes (the handbrake's poor as well but that's a different system) 3. Cured ...

Seized brakes

My E type series 3 rebuild is now almost complete and due for the road. I have given it a pre MOT and found that the brakes are seized on. Wrong window regulator series 3 2+2 ???

I purchase a new regulator for the right hand door from Martin Robey's. part No. BD32616. When I removed the worn original one it was the opposite hand !!!!! Checked with Robey's and they confirmed it was correct. Robey's told me I could try fitting it and still be able to return it (hope they honou...

Wolfgandg, I found your information interesting but probably outside of my ability to carry out. I do not possess machinery that would be capable of grinding needles to that type of precision.

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

Thanks for the info, The engine in my series 3 is a hybrid. The original engine was destroyed, or so the previous owner told me, and an HE engine from an XJ was put in its place. I have had a lot of difficulties with converting it to the E-type. Sump, oil filter, carbs etc are different. It took tim...
