Air in the brakes ?? Series 3 E-type

When I checked the brakes after my rebuild I found I had a problem. 1. The front brakes were not releasing properly. Cured that with a new master cylinder 2. When I refilled the system and bled it I had almost no rear foot brakes (the handbrake's poor as well but that's a different system) 3. Cured ...

Wrong window regulator series 3 2+2 ???

I purchase a new regulator for the right hand door from Martin Robey's. part No. BD32616. When I removed the worn original one it was the opposite hand !!!!! Checked with Robey's and they confirmed it was correct. Robey's told me I could try fitting it and still be able to return it (hope they honou...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

Thank you for your help.
Wolfgandg, I found your information interesting but probably outside of my ability to carry out. I do not possess machinery that would be capable of grinding needles to that type of precision.

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

Thanks for the info, The engine in my series 3 is a hybrid. The original engine was destroyed, or so the previous owner told me, and an HE engine from an XJ was put in its place. I have had a lot of difficulties with converting it to the E-type. Sump, oil filter, carbs etc are different. It took tim...

Vacuum Pipes on series 3

I cannot find out the layout of all the vacuum pipes on my series 3 V12. From what I can determine there are 3 items that use vacuum. 1. The distributor. I've taken a pipe from underneath the left hand rear carb to the distributor 2. The left hand air cleaner. Source and route unknown 3. The right h...

Wiring harneses

Has anyone out there had any experience of, off the shelf wiring harnesses ? In other words, do they fit ok. Alternatively anyone know where I can get a homemade harness braided. Preferably in the UK. I have made these before for other projects BUT the wiring suppliers, Auto Electrical Services (AES...

Series 3 ignition

I'm having trouble with getting the engine started for the first time in many many years. I have re-built the engine (the original was destroyed and replaced with a XJS HE engine.) I have checked the timing 12 deg BTDC with mark on the rotor opposite the pick up The timing sequence is correct The No...

Re: V12 fuel pump

I have a double fuel pump (it's for the V12) and when I came to fit it, it didn't work. However, if you take the end caps off ( just unscrew the nuts holding the spade terminal ) this exposes the points inside. They may be corroded or badly pitted. They suffer the same as the old fashioned ignition ...

Re: V12 Oil pump

Thanks Marek,

I'll try that a little later on. I have already taken off the oil pressure sending casing so it may be easier to inject the oil via this opening.

I'll let you know if I have any success.

V12 Oil pump

I have rebuilt the engine on my V12 and I have got to the stage where I can spin it over with no plugs etc just to see if there are any odd noises etc.

No adverse noises but there is no oil pressure at all.

Does the oil pump have to be primed in any way, if so how is it done?

Hi Simon, I bought all the innards of the late series pump from SNG and NO they aren't the same. There are small differences in the seal dia and bearing length. I've sent them back and am forced to go down another route. There's a guy who advertises on E-bay that will do them for ?145 + postage as a...

Hi Simon,

Tried adding a photo, not sure if it's worked or not !!

Thanks for the info I found it very helpful. I'm pretty sure now that they are the same only a screw difference. Of course these guys, SNG and the like, aren't engineers and they can only go from a book.

Water pump

Does anyone know if the internal parts of the water pump for the series 3 are the same for early and late types One well known distributor (SNG) could not tell me as the early type parts are not quoted as individual parts
