Re: Ignition timing on v12 low compression USA model

Eventually I extracted an answer from SNGB. A low compression 7.8:1 engine is set up at 12deg BTDC using a strobe with Vacuum tube disconnected. Their electronic conversion kit uses the same setting as the OE ignition as it is designed to mimic its parameters. Thanks for all your help regards David

Re: Ignition timing on v12 low compression USA model

Thank you very much for your replies Marek and Colin. I will check with SNGB if they can advise. The vacuum tube points towards the front of the car. The engine number is 7S8635LB. I thought all US cars were low compression because of emission regs there... Any more pointers gratefully received! Oth...

Ignition timing on v12 low compression USA model

Hi Guys

Im trying to set the ignition timing (using strobe) on my '72 US import. I have SNG electronic ignition and 97 octane fuel. I believe the compression ratio is 7.8:1.
Can anyone tell me how many degrees before TDC I should be setting at?

Thank you Marek so much for that detailed and very clear explanation....very much appreciated.

Ill go straight out to my shed and wire up!

Electronic ign. tacho problems

Hi all I recently sent my tacho to Richfield Speedograph for repair and it was returned "upgraded" In the meantime (and whilst it was disconnected) I noticed that whilst the car would start immediately it would then stop immediately. I wrongly misdiagnosed this as an ignition problem and rushed into...

Re: Fuel pump fire!

"Remember that a fuse only protects the cable AFTER the fuse so find the fuel pump feed wire in the dash as put it there and not next to the pump!"

Oh....thanks for that!! (I always anywhere in the circuit would work)

Re: Fuel pump fire!

Damage limited to a 4" ring of blistered paint.....fortunately car due to be resprayed later this year. The pump is original points type and inside points casing there is no damage .....in fact I reckon pump may still work. The fire was gentle burning of wire casing and the pump insulation......not ...

Re: Voltage regulator.....anyone an electrician?

Thanks Julian,,,,it dosent look like glue (but it might be!) I have noticed that although it looks un-corroded there is lots of corrosion between the spade terminals and the circuit board so Ill clean them up and test it without changing any transistors etc. ....and yes it is an originality thing......

Voltage regulator.....anyone an electrician?

Ive had charging problems...initially the alternator wasn't charging. I found on stripping it down that there was a bad earth on the diodes. It is now working but I'm getting 18.5V across the battery when engine running. So I've now turned my attention tp the voltage regulator as shown in the pic. I...

Thanks guys very much for your replies. Yes the engine sounds good. I am relieved as I thought I was going to be told that the figures were suspiciously low!

Compression test interpretation

Hi All.....Im trying to decide whether I need to haul my engine out so Ive just done a dry compression test on my US low compression LB suffix v12 (1972 56kmiles) and achieved these results: Bank A 1-6 100-105-100-100-95-100psi Bank B 1-6 115-120-118-115-110-115psi Firstly am I correct that this eng...

Re: Rear engine mount

Thanks Jerome......ive now replaced the rubbers and clearance is now good! Managed to take mount off with exhausts on......just by dropping front exhaust connection gave enough clearance. And talking of short cuts heres a tip. If you need to gain access to the top of box why not simply chisel a slit...

Rear engine mount

Whilst replacing o rings in my selector fork rods I noticed that all four nuts to front drive shaft flange were loose. Also that the clearance between driveshaft yokes and crossmember is only 8mm. If I shake gearbox the driveshaft knocks on the crossmember. The car has not been driven since '81 so I...

Re: pas rebuild problem

Yes that was a daft question. Having stripped it all down again I discovered there is nothing wrong with my pinion valve.Because the car was jacked up, no resistance was felt by the pinion torsion bar hence no assistance provided... Ane rack seal leak was caused by excess clearance between the rack ...

Hello and good morning (tho it hasnt been) Ive recently rebuild my steering rack and pump (including a pressure reduction kit from Borgeson)....tho not touched the valve and pinion assy.
