Fuel Tank Sender

As part of the ongoing restoration of my 1968 S1.5, have to decide whether or not to replace the old fuel tank sender. Took the sender apart, cleaned the gunk off the rheostat now it's working again ( or least to a test bulb fitted temporarilly into the circuit) Question, the sender is immersed in f...

Fuel Tank, venting pipes.

The brand new fuel tank has arrived for my 1968 (ex USA) S1.5 OTS. Unfortunately I ordered the version with the three venting pipes ( US emission complient ?? ). The old tank has the single vent pipe, venting, via a pipe to below the fuel filler neck. Anyone else made this stupid mistake and how did...

SNG Barratt

Big thumbs up to SNG Bridgenorth. Ordered a petrol tank for my S1.5 OTS yesterday about 10:00 am, arrived at my address in Germany 26 hrs later. Great deal, great sevice and good quality.

No association with SNG, just a satisfied customer.

Oil Pressure Swich

I am restoring a1968 S1.5 OTS. At the moment I am rebuilding the engine. Does anyone know if there is a method of bench testing the Oil Presure Switch. It came in a box of "spares" when I bought the car and looks fairly new. The engine is still someway from being complete, so its not possible to che...

Lumenitron Magnetronic

I am restoring a 1968 S1.5. When I opened up the distributor, I found a new looking Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition had been fitted. The engine / car was in bits when I bought it, so I am sure the LM Ignition was part of the " restoration / bodge " done by the previous owner. After unsiezing the diz...

Re: Brake Servo

G'day Andrew Thanks for your constructive idea's. The idea with the M4 cap screw worked perfectly , filed one down to the dimensions on your drawing, fitted first time. Got to think about getting a small lathe for my workshop. Certainly would make jobs like that a lot easier. Thanks again for the su...

Brake Servo

I am restoring a 1968 S1.5 OTS. While working on the brake servo, I found that the Brake Servo Stop Pin which fits into the Cylinder Body is missing. None of the suppliers who I have contacted, stock this pin. Because I wish to keep the car as original as possible, I had the Servo Cylinder resleeved...

Warning Lamp

Does anyone know which type of bulb fits the Handbrake/Brake Fluid Warning Lamp bulb holder on the dashboard of my 1968 S1.5 ???

Have tried the screw in and also the bayonet type indicator bulbs, none of which fit( Stay in the fitting)

The fitting is original.

Camshafts

My 1968 S1,5 engine was partially dissasembeled when I purchased the car. The camshafts were already seperated from the cyl.head. The camshaft labeled exhaust is plugged at the end with a 9/16 screw, and has the number MC 20889-5 stamped onto it. The other camshaft labeled inlet has the number MC 20...

S1,5 OTS Door Trim

I am restoring a 1968 S1,5 OTS. Regarding the door trim, according to my Porter restorers guide the armrests were deleted. However the SNG parts list includes them for this model as does the BAS trim catalouge. There were no armrests on the car as bought ( but the the car had many other "modificatio...

Flywheel Clutch Balance.

I am rebuilding my S1.5 engine. The work so far involved rebore, new Mahle pistons, crankshaft polished and dynamically ballanced plus new timing chains etc. The engine has been assembled so far that the next job is to mount the Flywheel and clutch. When I disasembled these, the relative positions o...

Connecting Rods

I am rebuilding my 1968 engine. While tearing down the engine I took many pictures of the " before and after" Unfortunately I cannot make out from the pics which way round the con rods should be. The engine is at the moment sitting on its head. Looking from back to front, should the con ron number (...

Re: Heater Moter Resistor

Becoming a bit of an ongoing saga with the heater resitor. Purchased the resistor from SNG, riveted to the base of heater, to provide a good heat sink, viola..it works, both on fast and slow. After a few minutes on slow speed I noticed that the resisistor was glowing, despite the good heat sink. A f...
