Camshafts

My 1968 S1,5 engine was partially dissasembeled when I purchased the car. The camshafts were already seperated from the cyl.head. The camshaft labeled exhaust is plugged at the end with a 9/16 screw, and has the number MC 20889-5 stamped onto it. The other camshaft labeled inlet has the number MC 20...

S1,5 OTS Door Trim

I am restoring a 1968 S1,5 OTS. Regarding the door trim, according to my Porter restorers guide the armrests were deleted. However the SNG parts list includes them for this model as does the BAS trim catalouge. There were no armrests on the car as bought ( but the the car had many other "modificatio...

Flywheel Clutch Balance.

I am rebuilding my S1.5 engine. The work so far involved rebore, new Mahle pistons, crankshaft polished and dynamically ballanced plus new timing chains etc. The engine has been assembled so far that the next job is to mount the Flywheel and clutch. When I disasembled these, the relative positions o...

Connecting Rods

I am rebuilding my 1968 engine. While tearing down the engine I took many pictures of the " before and after" Unfortunately I cannot make out from the pics which way round the con rods should be. The engine is at the moment sitting on its head. Looking from back to front, should the con ron number (...

Re: Heater Moter Resistor

Becoming a bit of an ongoing saga with the heater resitor. Purchased the resistor from SNG, riveted to the base of heater, to provide a good heat sink, viola..it works, both on fast and slow. After a few minutes on slow speed I noticed that the resisistor was glowing, despite the good heat sink. A f...

Heater Moter Resistor

I am restoring an August 1968 OTS ( S1.5 ). Along with most of the Dashboard electrics the Heater motor resistor is missing. After almost five years of restoration I an fully aware of how expensive E Type parts are but E120 for a simple resistor seems like a " Rip off" Anyone have any suggestions re...

Re: Brake line terminations.

Hi Peter Thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have been more specific with my enquiry. Some of the end fittings are quite obvious, for example an end fitting to a flexible brake hose, this can be easily seen and the required end fitting made. I was thinking more of which end fitting should be used ...

Brake line terminations.

The next part of the rebuild of my 1968 OTS is the replacement of the brake lines with 3/16 Kunifer. Regarding the shape of the terminal ends, should this be double flared or bubble flared ??? My " cheapie" flaring machine does both.

Thanks for your help

S1.5 OTS Brake line routing

When I dismantled my 1968 OTS, I was careful to photograph the layout of the brake lines. The photos were stored on a laptop which was unfortunatly stolen ( yes I know I should have made a backup). I have stripped out all of the old hydraulics, and now want to put new Cunifer lines in. An Internet s...

Drive gear backlash.

The backlash etched on the drive gear of my 1968 OTS says B/L 0 07. I guess that refers to inches not mm. I am slightly confused by the way it is written, does it mean 0.07 inches or 0.007 inches. Thanks for anyones help.

Cheers

Mike.

1968 S1.5 Crankshaft.

I am restoring a 1968 S1.5 OTS. Have recently stripped down the engine and have the crankshaft out. The crankshaft shows some scoring on the main bearings, whereas the big end bearings are within spec and have no scoring. Would appreciate some advice re. the main bearings. According to my workshop m...

Rear Hubs

I am restoring a 1968 S1,5 OTS. On the rear hubs there is a dished steel " dish" which I think acts as a water deflecter. When I pulled the wheel bearing off, this water deflecter came off. As far as I can see this seems to be pressed into a shallow groove in the hub. I can push the dish back onto t...
