Re: Main shaft issue

Bill, sorry if it was unclear written. But what I was trying to say was that to grind this axle down from 1” to 13/16” take away more strength than a slightly reduced centre hole can add strength.

Thanks for the tip about hard chrome. I will check it out with a suitable workshop.

Re: Main shaft issue

Thank you for the response! Yes I realize that the surface for the needles must be hardened. One possibility is to use a needle bearing inner ring, it will have the correct hardness. I have found a suitable ring with 1" outer diameter and 13/16" inner. Means that I have to grind the main shaft down ...

Main shaft issue

Hello I have my syncro gearbox under restoration. Between the main shaft and the constant pinion shaft there is a needle bearing. This bearing have made a lot of wear on the main shaft. I was thinking of grind the surface on the main shaft down and after that press a sleeve on it in order to create ...

Re: Titanium exhaust system.

Go for titanium. I don't know what my experience is worth as it's not from an E-type but my previous car was a Corvette Z06 with the stock titanium cat back system. It´s incredible lightweight. My experience is that it´s not the same sound as in a typical stainless system. The pipes that are closest...

Re: Belt length and alternator

Thanks for the replies! I changed direction on the upper bracket/bar because it collided with the (wrong)alternator fan. I cant get closer with the alternator to the engine than this. Its´s around 25mm left to go and I need to come closer. Is it wrong bar or wrong bracket on the water pump? It was a...

Belt length and alternator

Hi I got a problem with the alternator/water pump belt. I ordered the Duplex 1100mm from SNG but its way to short. 1100mm is the proper length as far as I know. So maybe I have wrong parts on my engine? Can anyone tell me if I have the correct alternator before I try to find a longer belt? It is sta...

Re: Head gasket

Thank you all, I will order a new gasket with oval water holes. Different hole sizes for the water in a head gasket can be used to adjust the water flow in order to keep the same temperature for each cylinder. The smallest holes are then closest to the water pump where it is the highest water pressu...

Head gasket

I am putting my engine togehter and I am in a doubt of my cylinder head gasket. There are a mismatch in size and shape between the water jackets in the block and the head gasket. It is oval in the block and cylinder head and small round in the gasket. And the water holes in the gasket does not have ...

Re: Missing spacer in final drive

I contacted AJ and got the answer. The spacer I asked for was newer introduced on this final drive although it is in the spare parts catologue.
Maybe it was in use for other heavier applications for the final drive, I do not know.
Thank you!

Missing spacer in final drive

Hi, everyone. I have now started my restoration of my 1966 OTS. I am rebuilding the differential and I have a part missing. It is the “Distance Washer 8029” between the pinion bearings. The distance washer is not available anymore, at least what I have found out . So I have some alternatives...

Re: New member Sweden

Thank you everyone! I'm now changing direction with my hobby going from a Corvette to an E-type. I had an accident with the Corvette that put it to an end. A failure in the clutch hydraulics started an engine fire. Without a fire extinguisher I could only step out of the car and watch the disaster r...

Hi everyone I did the big no no a couples of month ago. I bought a car in pieces that I never worked with before. Previous owner did some work on it and a lot of parts are already finished. But it is many years of restoration in the garage for me! So I am glad to find this forum! The car is...
