Re: Cigar lighter 3.8 E Type POSITIVE EARTH

Hi Heuer, Thanks for that. The live connection point on the new unit is different from the connection point on my old unit. Not interchangeable. I won't be able to connect two fat purple cables to the new unit terminal. Should/could I solder the purple wires to the new terminal spade so it clips str...

Yes, pull off the red and plug in the purple from the car loom.
Thanks very much.
Just couldn't work out why they supplied such a spindly red wire, when for that particular cigar lighter model only came on the 3.8 had two heavy duty purple wires to carry the load.
Thanks again 👍

Cigar lighter 3.8 E Type POSITIVE EARTH

Have a new cigar lighter part no. C18638 see photo. It has a fine small dia red cable connected to the live pin and a side tab presumably for the Earth (no instructions) On my old unit there are 2 much larger purple wires connected to the live, and a black earth connected to the side tab. Question: ...

Re: Demister Vents

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so hopefully this will be of help and give an idea of what I'm doing. Not too worried about UV degradation as the demister nozzles are mounted below the black dash top and covered by the metal escutcheon plates screwed over the top, but I take your point ...

Re: Demister Vents

I had a set 3D printed by Cardiff University 2 years ago. I have a complete set of five, and hold the design software to have more printed. I've not fitted them yet as I’m not quite at that stage. My only concern which may or not be proved, is the operating temperature range. Certainly a hot air gun...

BAS International Cwmbran Wales (and the best upholsterers in the business IMO) are in the process of producing the ally panels, dot pattern, with a better fit around the gear knob cowl too.

Re: Early 4.2 trim in a 3.8

Hi mylesw, Your car would certainly have a black centre dash panel not aluminium, also a leather covered centre console and armrest cubby box underneath. Armrests were fitted by May 64 also. You would have had storage pockets under the B pillar, which were dropped for the 4.2 and you would have the ...

Re: 3.8 FHC E Type. Fixing screws

Hi All, Here's a photo I just took of the screws. The two on the left are the existing dome head ones which were in the hinge plates, but also fit the window frames. The two on the right are the new Barratt's ones BD4899/1 which only fit in the hinge plates and not the window frames. Barratt's are f...

Re: 3.8 FHC E Type. Fixing screws

Thanks guys for all your help and suggestions. I think I may have it sussed now. After the last reply from Simon I rushed out into the garage to see if the small screws that hold the hinge plate (5 per side) would indeed fit the 1/4 light frame together. Sadly no ! Ok. So now I've taken photos of my ...

Re: 3.8 FHC E Type. Fixing screws

Thanks Chris, but both Barratt's and Martin Robey have today confirmed neither stock them as there is no reference number for them, or even know what to suggest. There appears to be a few specialist nut/bolts companies who would probably sell them (see other adjacent forum posts) but I don't really ...

Re: 3.8 FHC E Type. Fixing screws

Hi Chris, Thanks very much for your reply. Unfortunately you're looking at the wrong screw. The one you mention BD4899/1 is part of a 10 screw set (5 per side) which attaches.the hinge plate to the rear of the B post. The screws I'm after are solely to connect the vertical part of the 1/4 light fram...

3.8 FHC E Type. Fixing screws

Help ! Can anyone shed some light please The rear 1/4 light frame on the fixed head is made of two parts. A horizontal "U" shape, and a vertical post behind the B post. Once the glass is inserted in the "U" shaped part, the vertical post is bolted to it with 2 screws top and two screws bottom. Don't...

Re: Early 4.2 trim in a 3.8

Hi there, just read your post about 4.2 trim in a 3.8.
I had a 64 FHC 3.8 and yes they were fitted with many 4.2 trim parts. If you have questions about specific parts I'd be glad to help. If I can't answer from memory I'll check in my many resto guide books. Dr Haddocks book is excellent by the way.

Cant rails required please.

I'm looking for a set of internal padded cant rails for a 2 seater coupe. I have a set of "fish tail" rails (OK but not brilliant condition) but would prefer the full wrap around type fitted to later cars. I believe S1 & S2 cars are the same, but obviously not 2+2. Any colour, even odd colours as th...

Interior trim parts

Hello to all, I'm in the final throes of completing the restoration of my 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe but require some pieces which are proving hard to find. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, it doesn't really matter if the parts are new or used as they would be refurbished a...
