Re: '64 3.8 Bonnet fitment

I played with the bonnet today. I only messed with the front of the mounting bracket to adjust the bonnet towards the bulkhead. I now have NO shims on the drivers side and ONE thin shim on the passenger side. I adjusted the stays just a bit and it closes better. It lines up well. Is it unusu...

Re: '64 3.8 Bonnet fitment

Thank you for the feedback. I checked the mounting pins on the firewall and they line up nicely when the bonnet is closed. So I'm pretty sure I just need to adjust the number of shims to bring the bonnet closer to the firewall. Yes? And maybe to sit lower on the pins when it is caught by the center ...

'64 3.8 Bonnet fitment

It's been a couple years since I posted here. Car is running great. When I put it back together I never really got the bonnet fitted properly. I takes a fair amount of push to get it closed and locked. So, I was wondering....is there any reason why I can't just close the bonnet, unbolt the hinges, l...

Alan,

Great looking manifolds! Are they ground and polished or are they coated? If they are coated, what product/service did you use?

Thanks,

Charlie

Re: Oil pressure gauge replacement

Phill,

I have a '64 and have been thinking of doing the same gauge replacement. Which gauge did you go with? I sourced a Smiths one, but haven't done the change over yet.

Thanks,

Charlie

Re: Water pump removal on a 3.8

While working on my '64 I have often lamented that the Jag engineers didn't give a simple 1/8th of an inch more room fore/aft and right/left in the design of the front frames. I doubt that would have made a difference in the overall design/look/function of the E-Type, but sure would have made it eas...

Re: Moss Motors Ltd acquires XKs Unlimited

I've been a devote XKs customer since I acquired my E-Type in 2012. I also have an MGB and have used Moss for almost all of my needs for the B. I certainly hope this merger doesn't negatively effect the quality of parts, level of customer service and knowledge of the employees for the Jaguar communi...

Re: Frustrated by poor quality product

Read Davids post a bit further back...he said "Depends on how you do it. If you were to, say, write a review of the positives and negatives of your experience there would be no problem. If however you decided to do a complete hatchet job on the vendor we would have a problem." Steve I did read the ...

For Tim and everybody else... This is supposed be an information sharing website. Why not just do a review of the offending part and name where you bought it. Quit dancing around the subject. Also indicate what kind of customer service you received when you contacted them to explain your problems. I...

Ammeter needle pegged

Occasionally when starting, the ammeter needle pegs and sticks in the full Discharge position after the engine is running. If I tap the gauge, it comes loose and re-centers.

Any ideas why it is doing this? Doesn't always do it. Only sometimes. Weird.

Thanks.

Almost looks like the coil bracket that mounts on the front breather cover. Is there a stud on the other side of the pointed end?

I just had Vredestein 185-15 installed on my car. I had 205 Pirelli's on before and was afraid the Vreds wouldn't look right. They look and ride great! I vote for them!

Re: Hoses to screen washer jets

Philk, There are/is at least one link regarding this topic. In a nut shell it talked about "borrowing" a young child to reach into the cavity, undo the wing nut, pull washer out (hose attached), replace the hose with wing nut threaded over hose, and having said child reinsert wing nut on washer, bei...

Re: Leaking Cam cover nuts

Andrewh, From my posts regarding the same issue: "I did discover an interesting issue. When I fitted the cam covers back on, I found that some of the studs were too long for the acorn nuts to sit down onto the copper washers. Using a dial caliper I measured the studs that were too long and found qui...
