Re: Series 3 SNGB Ignition Conversion

Hi Marek and Phillip Many thanks for your helpful responses. I contacted SNG Barratt and early last week I sent them my ballast resistor (BR) for testing. Their technical guy, Brian, spoke with me and advised that: a) the BR as supplied with their Ignition Conversion Kit is totally different to that...

Hi Marcus - suggest you take a look at the Series 3 spares manual pages 33.45 and .46. The manual is available as a pdf in the forum's Knowledge Base.
Hope that helps

I suggest you take a look at the response by Jagwit, included in the link below: https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11048&p=89529&hilit=stromberg#p89515 As Phillip says, it's easy to set the compensators so why not do so? I've done mine per Phillip's article. You just need a reliable ther...

Re: SNG Ignition System problems

Hi - I had what seems to be a similar problem. First trial: Connect a cable between the positive of the battery and the positive terminal of the ignition coil. If the engine starts and runs OK then the problem lies with the ignition system between the ignition switch and the coil. I had purchased a ...

Re: Radiator Grille

Hi - I just checked on the SNGB UK website. The clips referred to are listed as: Stainless Steel Grille Moulding Clip BD39095. After fitting these clips I found that the rivets are not really necessary to fit as the bumper overriders hold the moulding well in position at the corners and sides (or as...

Series 3 Oil Pressure Gauge

I'm thinking of installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my 1972 Series 3. The current electrical gauge dial is 0 to 80 psi range which I assume is the originally fitted gauge? Can a member please advise a supplier of the mechnical gauge together with adapter, tubing etc and having the same 0 t...

Re: Floor Pan Coating

I was very interested in this dialogue. Both of my S3 floor pans have been replaced over time; one by a PO and one under my ownership. The replacements did not have any of the material mentioned. When the engine was removed for a re-build a year or so ago, I took the opportunity to access areas whic...

Re: Mystery window regulator part

Hi Mark - I just used a short length (about 3") of an old rubber door seal which had one flat edge and a circular section giving an uncompressed height of about 1". Glued flat edge to bottom of door with bostik or similar after marking the best position by winding the window down onto the seal and t...

Re: Setting up Strombergs

Hi Pete - just to check that you set the air-fuel mixture when you adjusted the carbs? If the mix is not correct it could be (??) that when she comes off choke the mix is causing the fast idle and no adjustment on the throttle idle screws? Did you manage to find the Jagwit article on setting up Stro...

Re: Setting up Strombergs Series 3

Hi Pete - your problem is by no means unique and I would strongly suggest that you trawl the forum for ignition and carb set up posts of which there are many. You'll soon work out which of the members' posts are the most reliable. First thought is to check whether the choke cable (inner & outer) on ...

Re: Stromberg carb leaking fuel past threads of needle valve

Given that the top of the float requires adjustment (tab bending) to be at a specified height above the body of the carb, would the float also need readjusting to that height after fitting the washer etc?
Best regards

Hi All - as it's a bank holiday in the UK today, I was at something of a loose end so I checked Richard Russ' Guide to Authenticity which on page 47 states: "the windscreen wiper motor (he means the casing) is painted dark grey metallic hammertone". I've searched quite extensively for an aerosol of ...

Could you please advise where I can locate parts for the throttle linkage for the V12? In particular I'm trying to find the "top hat" brass washer/bush Jag part number 12376 (page 25.45 of Parts Catalogue) but would also be helpful to replace some other parts of the "lower" linkage i.e. below the sh...

All decals and their positions for RHD and LHD Series 3's are set out on pages 173 through 180 of Richard T Russ's 1991 book: "Jaguar V-12 E-Type A Guide to Authenticity". If you PM me letting me know the specific decals to which you're referring, I'll try to advise their positions based on the book...

Hi - I have not experienced a stuck thottle cable but I have replaced that cable a year or so ago on a just-in-case basis. Re: Door waist/glass seal 2+2

Hi Bob - this self isolation seems to make it compulsory to spend time in the garage getting those jobs done which get deferred under more normal circumstances. I recently replaced my passenger and driver door assemblies so had to fit the windows and all the trim parts before hanging the doors. If y...
