Re: The Great MoT Confusion
My Existing MOT expires during October and I got the usual letter from DVLA stating that my zero tax requires renewing from 1st October. I ticked the right boxes, no mention of MOT being less than 1 month, and the computer said yes, your car is now taxed for another 12 months. I no longer require MO...

Re: Squeaky chattering noise front of engine
I have a similar noise! I thought it might be water pump, but this post got me thinking that it could be the tensioner! There is slight movement in the water pump pulley but I am not losing water and no other signs of wear. Is there a simple check to ascertain which, before I spend over £400 having ...

Re: Alternator Bracket
Just to let you know the bolt as referenced was incorrect. It is the correct length but slightly too "narrow" The correct bolt (left hand side alternator bracket bolt to block) is UFS143/6R, superseded for ordering purposes by SH607061J. There are 2 identical bolts holding the bracket to the block. ...

Water pump
I know that this subject has been covered before but I am after some definitive answers! 1. Are “new” water pumps available or is it a case of reconditioning the old one? 2. What is the best way to tackle this job? Eg it would be easier to remove bonnet but is this necessary? Can the pump be removed...

Alternator Bracket
I have lost a bolt that holds the alternator bracket to the engine block. (See attached photo. It is just to right of the crease in the heat shield, .) Can any one tell me the size and length of this bolt? I can’t find reference to it in SNG catalogue. Many thanks in anticipation. https://s33.postim...

Seat belts
My 1969 series 2 has previously been fitted with static seat belts coloured black. I was thinking of changing them to a more pleasant colour, but I was wondering what colour options would have been available in 1969/70? I have got some sampled of grey, silver, green (my car has suede green interior)...

Re: Asking price record?
I agree. I paid 55 2 years ago with Dealer. The car is not perfect but like yours, pretty good! The etype magazine has done a feature on values, the 2 plus 2 averages around 35 to 40 over the last few years. I have never seen one advertised before this one for more than 65 to 70.

Asking price record?
Is this the highest asking price for a 2 plus 2? It appears someone is trying to recoupe their cost of rebuilding rather than reflecting the true market value of the car. I would have thought 75 to 80 was absolutely the top end. But as they say, a car is worth as much as you pay for it! https://s17....

Re: Windscreen surround
It was done under an Insurance claim at National Windscreens in U.K. It looks and feels like a rubber type Sikaflex compound. I've had no trouble with it since it was fitted about 18 months ago.

Windscreen surround
I have recently had the windscreen replaced on my Series 2 and there is a gap in the rubber sealant at the top of the A post. It's not very clear from the attached photo, but it's between the actual roof and the chrome trim. I assume this is a rain water channel that runs behind the pillar and disch...

Switch surround
There would appear to be silver paint around the toggle switches which has faded. Is there a simple or easy remedy as I am not that good with fine paint brushes! Or do most owners just put it down to patina. Is there a "chrome effect" answer, or am I looking for an answer that doesn't exist! https:/...

Re: Clutch gone
I remember reading many years ago that over winter the trick was to wedge a piece of wood as described to keep the clutch pedal depressed to prevent the clutch plate sticking to the flywheel, but I always thought this would put prolonged pressure on the clutch master cylinder seals with adverse resu...

Re: Oil Capacity
Thanks for your replies. My dipstick is bent and doesn’t sit naturally on the stop, I have to push it down a few mms. The attached photo also shows the length from the stop to the end is less than 10 inches, which suggests it is sitting “short” in the sump and therefore under reading, ie it needs to...

Oil Capacity
Today’s job was to change oil and filter in my series 2, so armed with a new filter (old cartridge type) and 10 litres of Millers finest, all went well until I filled up with new oil. According to my owners manual 15 pints or 8.5 litres will do the job. Well, 2 cans later (10 litres), the oil was ba...
