Re: Oil cooler XJ6 on E type
Interestingly XJ6's came with oil coolers (I don't know which series, though), and they were fitted in front of the radiator, just as I did. I suspect that's bad design because the oil cooler warms up the radiator and disturbs the air flow. I guess the oil cooler with scoop would be better: https://...

Re: Oil cooler XJ6 on E type
Hi there, let me post a brief report of my endevours to fit an oil cooler to my S1 4,2L! 1. I've replaced the original oil canister socket by a XJ6 S1 socket with outlets for an oil cooler. The threads are 5/8" BSP with inner cone. https://i.postimg.cc/769yQgf5/oilcooler1.jpg 2. I've fitted a oil th...

New Clutch slave cylinder: losing fluid overnight?
Hi there, I've purchased a clutch slave cylinder (C21470# CLUTCH SLAVE CYL, ca. 40EUR, 18 months ago) from the usual ;-) After 500 mls I noticed that it lost 150 ml fluid overnight, after a ride in hot weather (25°C+). I topped the fluid up, and it appears that it is still incontinent, but just not ...

Hi, had 2 engines rebuilt by them, no problems, reputable people. It`s a petty that they terminated their business.

Re: Lower Steering Column Yoke - updte
Hello all, just a quick update: I've extracted the steering column from the car in order to inspect the splines on the yoke: - foto 1 shows the splines of the lower yoke: https://i.postimg.cc/SKQf8cNw/lower-yoke-splines.png - foto 2 shows the yoke on the upper-end of the steering column: https://i.p...

Re: Lower Steering Column Yoke - bit of progress - and a question!
Hi there, I started working on getting rid of the loose fitting of the lower steering yoke on the steering rack pinion. Stage 1: remove the old allen screw. I managed to remove the allen screw of the lower half of the yoke (the upper half of the yoke is integral part of the steering column, remember...

Re: Lower Steering Column Yoke
Hello Dave, you wrote "good fit", this means you cannot turn the yoke even if the pinch screw is away? Could you do me a favour and measure the outer diameter of the pinion and the inner dia of the yokes? I cannot turn my yoke by hand but it is rocking up and down on the shaft (and ofcourse sliding ...

Re: Lower Steering Column Yoke: anybody using an aftermarket yoke?
Hi there, thank you for the input sofar. Although I am a bit reluctant to drill or saw into the knuckle... Dave's approach to buy joints that have the recessed bolt and to use the lower half of it, doesn't seem to work out for me because the "usuals" don't offer that part... But they offer a repro p...

Re: Lower Steering Column Yoke
Hello Dave, I had managed to buy a couple of joints which had the recessed bolt section on one end and the conventional though bolt on the other. This appears to be a viable way! From your observations, where does the play come from: the splines on the yoke or on the steering rack pinion? The silver...

Re: Lower Steering Column Yoke
Hi there, my yoke has exactly the same issue! The splines don't really show excessive wear, so I would assume that the play was tolerated during manufacturing period. In any case, a fellow member from "the other forum" pointed to a similar issue with MGA steering yokes and a service bulleting from t...

Re: rolling road figures
I simply cannot wrap my head around the fact that just a coil pack and an ECU achieve a performance gain like that. Even compared to 123! Has somebody an understanding how that can be?Heuer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 5:23 pmEverything we know is here: http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?p=2553#p2553

Re: rolling road figures: ECU users here?
Dan. That hardware kit is still available. The kit was originally destined to be a complete turnkey kit with ECU and loom, but we dropped that when we stopped ECU production about 3 years ago. Hello, did you adapt the software/parameters of the ECU to the XK-engine, or was it more or less standard ...

Re: rolling road figures
A few years back, when we were still in the ECU business and had our own rolling road, we did some back to back testing on a standard 4.2 Etype , mainly to see how a well mapped ignition system affected the torque, but it also shows a stock SU equipped power curve alongside the same engine fitted w...

Re: 3 SU-carbs: oscillating AFR-value
Hello there, upon Mr Heuers recommendation I checked my fuel pressure, which is ca. 5 PSI (ca. 0.34 bar): https://i.postimg.cc/mr6Z6zGC/pierburg-fuelpressure.png I've replaced my Pierburg pump with a new SU pump, and installed a fuel pressure regulator between filter and carburetors. I set the fuel ...
