Re: Top end tapping - still
Hi Peter, I just posted with a similar problem and related questions however.... I had one valve that was very noisy. The reason was that I had a new valve seat fitted and it was not properly ground back to factory tolerance by the engineers, so the valve sat lower in the head. Only by 20 thou, but ...

E Type with XJ6 Cams - chatter
Hi, some advice please from you knowledgeable types. I have a '67 E Type roadster 4.2 but unfortunately it doesn't have the original engine but that of a '73 XJ6 4.2. During the restoration I stumbled across a genuine 4.2 E Type head and decided to fit that, having made the appropriate adjustments t...

Stalling on over run with the clutch in.
Hi All, I wonder if anyone has an idea what could be causing thgis. I have just finished rebuilding my car and have managed to put about 150 miles on it over the last few weeks. It runs really well, although it is reluctant to start from cold and when approaching traffic lights etc, you dip the clut...

Re: Windscreen Installation
Can I ask, did Autowindscreens supply the windscreen as well? I bought mine ages ago and all the parts and rubbers.
Would they fit only do you think?

Re: Gearbox tunnel - foam cover
Thanks very much.
I have now found an earlier thread on this which answers all my questions.
I should have looked more thoroughly first. It appears to be OK!!
Thanks again.

Gearbox tunnel - foam cover
Hi, can anyone advise me if the 2" thick foam insert between the gearbox top and the tunnel cover is made of anything special? ie is it fire or oil resistant etc.
I have some foam I can use to do this but its from a sofa!!
Would there be a problem using this?
Many thanks
Steve

Re: LED & PL700
I have also used Gils products from Better Car Lighting and the quality is superb. Gil is immensely helpful and full of genuine advice and wisdom, not just trying to sell you stuff. I am very happy with my headlights and in fact, every light bulb on my Healey and the E Type are LED. No connection by...

Re: Unknown Engine Part
It looks like it might be the dip stick retaining clip that bolts to the rear exhaust manifold studs. Mine is only attached to one of the studs though, it looks like yours goes across two??
Other than that, no idea and Ive handled all the parts on my car!
Good luck
Steve

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing
Well, that was a nightmare! As you saw from the earlier photos I had previously fitted a Toyota W58, 5 Spd gearbox. This, together with the adapter plate, is about a foot longer than the standard box, and bulkier. When I fitted the engine, I built the engine frames around it to avoid the heavy lifti...

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing
Thank you guys. I have spent the day undoing all my hard work and stripping the engine ancillaries. It will be coming out in the morning. As such I didn't do everything you have suggested today but I can tell you that when bleeding the clutch there was no effort required on the pedal so the hydrauli...

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing
Hi Rory, unfortunately I took it off before I checked that, but it must be ridiculously close even if its not actually touching. The trouble is thats going to give no room for wear so I think I need a better solution. To make matters worse the 1" slave cylinder I bought is u/s, although it looks the...

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing
Guys I have spent a few hours under the car taking the exhaust off as stage one to remove the engine and while I was there I took a couple of photos through the inspection hole under the clutch. I don't have an endoscope so this isn't great but it does show what I have. The thrust bearing appears to...

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing
Thanks John and Rory, Yes I agree, I think its the activating lever being too far past its fulcrum point as a consequence of the thrust bearing/flywheel/clutch plate being too thin. A thicker or taller bearing would help push the slave end of the lever further to the front of the car increasing effi...

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing
Hi Marek and Steve, thank you for your help so far. Just one more thing......I think I have a major problem here with my clutch. I have put it off but I think I need to take the lump back out. :banghead: I think my problem (a very, very heavy clutch) is that this lever is so far back that the effici...

Petrol effect on non compatible pipes
Hi all, I've read in numerous places that petrol can erode rubber pipes if they are not specified for this use, particularly now that we have ethanol additives. I needed a piece of pipe to run from my petrol tank breather pipe up to the filler tube, it's about 10" long and I had a perfect piece, gre...

Thanks David and Steve, understand then, I was thinking it operated like Outlook. That all makes much more sense, thank you. One thing, I dont get emails from you to notify that I have a PM. I have checked my profile and I have enabled this feature but I cant see anywhere to put my email address in....

PM Message wont send
Hi can someone clarify for me..... When I send a PM message, all of them seem to stick in my outbox for ages before they go, which worries me if I have to leave the pc that it will not send. I currently have one that I wrote early this morning which is still there, in the Outbox, while two others wr...

Dash top metal
Hi, I need the metal under panel for the dash top for my S1 OTS (the bit that the vents attach to). SNGB or Robeys dont stock them at all. Does anyone know where I can get one of these, new or second hand and in any condition? I'm happy to do repairs if required. A separate issue but I also need the...

Are the flat-backed headlight pods handed (RHD or LHD)?
Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I have two of the flat-backed headlight pods new from a retailer and the sprung screws to adjust the direction appear to be for LHD, in as much that by screwing in the screw it will divert the lights INTO the path of oncoming drivers. Are there two typ...
