Re: Christopher Storey

This is really sad news. He will be sorely missed and, as others have already said, if there is any way David that the forum can pass on our collective condolences to his family that would be much appreciated.

RIP Christopher.

Re: SU experts, please chime in...

1. correct but I would add there is the fast idle adjustment screw used when the choke lever is engaged. 2. If I understand your question, yes, the throttle plates can be tricky to get exactly synchronized due to the inherent free play in the individual drop links from the throttle shaft to carbs. ...

Also, do you have a balance meter? Are the carbs balanced evenly (with all linkages between them undone)?

Re: Engine side frames

At least the damage was externally visible giving rise to an easy choice to replace them. I did ours when the engine was out back in 2017 given they represent such a key safety aspect on the car in the event of a head-on collision and can slowly deteriorate from the inside out over time.

Re: DVLA registration USA import

It is six years since I went through the same process with DVLA so good to hear an up to date story. Back then, you had to get the car MOT'd prior to starting the V5 first registration process so there was no choice other than to have it fully roadworthy at that point in time. I too had an inspectio...

Re: Hello - SW UK

Hi - Welcome to the forum. When I started my own E-Type search eight years ago, I was convinced I wanted a Coupe. However, I ended up with an OTS and have never regretted buying that instead. The E-Type engine bay transmits a lot of heat to the cabin and I can guarantee that you rarely see a coupe d...

Re: JDC JEC or E-type club

As for the JEC I feel it’s of benefit being a member for insurance discount and especially valuation purposes etc. I looked into the JEC new insurance scheme and it still came out more expensive than what I am paying through RH Specialist Insurance for our 3.8. https://www.rhspecialistinsurance.co....

Re: JDC JEC or E-type club

I'm only with the JEC - I was tempted by the E-Type club but was put off by the level of subs and its focus on expensive tours etc. Our JEC region (Surrey) is blessed by the fact that our monthly meeting location is at Brooklands which not only makes for a suitably atmospheric venue but also provide...

Re: Registration in Italy rejected - EEC-homologation - help wanted

I found this thread fascinating to read..... So, basically, in order to have your car pass the various tests in these countries, you have to make it less original. My '64 S1 3.8 OTS does not have E11 stampings on the rear reflectors because they are original as fitted from factory. What a ridiculous...

Re: Cooling fan relay questions

The fan relay on my car is located behind the battery which made it very convenient to run a wire through to the dashboard for a fan override switch. Not the original location but works well.

Re: What a great car!

I definitely notice a difference when using E5 99 Octane. If I use ordinary "Super Unleaded" E10 97/98 Octane, the car feels more lethargic and the mpg does seem to fall. It feels I can use lighter throttle settings on the 99 Octane all of which must add up to improved MPG.

Re: early S1 top Radiator hose availability

If you do fit one of these, be careful of the pressure rating of the header tank filler cap. This was increased in March '63 (as a step to lessen the chance of over-heating) to a 9lb blow-off pressure and a modified top radiator hose was introduced at the same time (Spares Bulletin N.3 relates).

I replaced all the instrument, panel and interior lights using https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/ and found them to be very good. No issues in the three years since I fitted them.

Definitely not worth the money or even half the money (unless they have taken actual OBL cars as the base cars). If they are not OBL cars then they are purporting to be something they are not which puts Jaguar's position on replicas under the microscope.

Another vote for a supply of plastic tags. Much larger market too. BTW those aluminium ones look great.
