Re: Wheels

I am aware that there are wheels available that claim to be tub eless wheels, however we have come accross too many failures with these wheels to trust them and would strongly encourage the fitment of innertubes with all wire wheels. there is more detail on here. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/cla...

Sorry to revive this post but I am looking for what tyre pressures to run on my series 1. The car is running Pirelli P4000 Super Touring 205/70 ZR 15 95. Any help would be much appreciated Eek! Take them off and throw them away. Sorry to be the barer of bad tidings. But these are really old. https:...

Re: tubeless wire wheels

I strongly advise fitting inner tubes in wire wheels. there is more evidence on here. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-tyre-inner-tubes.html Its just not worth the risk. we have seen too many failures. there is no reason to not fit a tube. (However you should not fit a tyre less than 70 prof...

Re: Truing wire wheels: where?

Eeek! dont try fettling wheels yourselves. Eeek! dont use motorbike wheel builders. motorbike wheels dont have to cope with side forces. In the UK we use Richard Bros in Wales to do our Bespoke Wheel building. But Turrino and MWS are also good wheel builders. I beleive Tudor wheels are pretty good. ...

Re: Which 185 tyre: Dunlop or Pirelli or Michelin ?

I would think an independent tire test would be interesting. Though there isn't one that i know of for an e-type thers is one that covers the bases

Re: Advice with wire wheels

Hi This link should offer you rim tapes and valve collar inserts. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/jaguar/e-type/185vr15-pirelli-cinturato-ca67.html It also offers the 185VR15 Cinturato which i am hoping to get back in stock before Christmas as this is the best non powersteering E-...

P5

Hi Jaguar asked Pirelli in the 1970s to develop a 205/70R15 tyre to improve their power steering cars. Then in the late 1970s they homologated the Cinturato P5 as the tyre for the XJS and XJ6 and of course the V12 versions. Nice bit of history as this was the first tyre that was the result of such a...

Eeeeuw! White Wall Tyres?

I hate the idea of fitting white wall tyres on an E-type. It is not the thing to do to a European car. I also hate the idea of people putting a H rated tyre on an E-type instead of a V rated tyre the way it should be. However i realise, that is my opinion. If you are going to do it, there is now a g...

You Snooze you loose

Hi We have a slightly old set of 185VR15 Cinturato CA67 tyre, These are the best tyres for a Series 1 or 2 standard road tyre (That and the Michelin XVS anyway) I have ended up with 4 tyres with a slightly old date code that we are doing a massive bargain on it is not the prices on here https://www....

P5

Hi We are now suggesting that Series 3 E-Type owners fiot the Pirelli P5 https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/pirelli-collezione/p5.html The tyre was developed by Pirelli and Jaguar together to go with the XJ range. But people are enjoying them on series 3 E-types maybe they suit KJaguars power steering

Re: Tyre Aspect Ratios

The tyres you need are on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/jaguar/e-type.html Crossplys are not so suited to modern motorways. Stick with a proper period 185R15 tyre on your car. Michelin or Pirelli are best. Going wider will not handle as well. a 205/70VR15 is the same diamet...

Re: Winter storage on axle stands

I took my E out for a warm up recently prior to retiring it for the winter. I decided to take the load off the tyres this time and it will allow me to do a few jobs more easily. Are these the right places for my axle stands? https://i.imgur.com/LZQvzxx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/p7KE5iZ.jpg Whilst loo...

Re: Which 185 tyre: Dunlop or Pirelli or Michelin ?

The options we sell are on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/jaguar/e-type.html The Current Dunlop SP Sport or Aquajet if you like is still produced, but not by Dunlop they are made under license else where. I think my web site says that "Dunlop are not making any historic road...

I have to say, i am not a massive fan of the Vredesteins

there are more options on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classi ... -type.html

I also don't think a H rated tyre is really good enough for an e-type.

Re: Wire Wheels Interchange

It's not right though. have you seen how they are sealed. you might be able to get the tyre plugged. but every time that tyre comes on and off the more likelihood there is of that black gunk being pulled out of the spoke holes. I supplied a set of tyres that we posted to famous E type owner who had ...
