Re: E10 fuel

The BIG issue is vapour lock with the ethanol on carbureted engines, especially after parked and heat soak.

Re: Ideas to reduce heat in car on Series 3 V12

Yes on retard diaphragm(replaced many times) But it is only active at tickover I seem to remember,
Once you're rolling the advance bob weights kick in, certainly on my strobe markings that I've spent ages gaping into!.

Re: Ideas to reduce heat in car on Series 3 V12

Yes lots of heat with all shields in place. It comes in from the bulkhead. I am lucky enough to have a Webasto from new. Does the trick.

Re: JD43 torsion bar tensioner tool alternative

I am lucky enough to have bought the tool some 25 years ago. It's actually made from a splined torsion bar locking plate,if they're still available?

Re: Starter motor problems

Ha, after 42 years of ownership my starter failed. I took it to the last remaining Lucas rebuild shop Jay Electrics Surrey outer London. Windings were shot. They rebuilt mine. I specifically did not want the knock off Hi Torque motors as I've heard they can get stuck and catch fire. What a differenc...

I fitted the Crane kit and coil years ago very carefully and can only praise it. The OPUS just died very slowly in about 1995 leaving me stranded once warm.

Certainly for UK they are not the same car. US models are full of emission stuff and also the air con dasd is different, side lights, bumpers. I spot them a mile off. Call me a snob.

Re: Series 3 E Type V12 Overheating Fix(es)

I had the radiator rebuilt with a high flow +30% core and did fit multiblade fans. I have had the heads off some time back and did clean out the rear liner crud. Making sure the system holds 13 psi on test also. I've fitted rebuilt water pump and addressed every aspect if system. There's a lot of he...

Re: Strombergs ... fix flooding .. get rid

I used my S3FHC to Jag 60th event yesterday. Yes the carbs were rebuilt some while back. Engine was humming on all 12. Yes the strombergs can run well. Fluffy at traffic stops and bit erratic but I;ve put a lot of time into these and they can run well. I always pot in 150 ml of hydraulic fluid Dex 3...

Re: Removing headrests

I know this is an old post but I'd thought I'd post my solution to the problem that came as a eureka moment. One of my headrests was stuck in and all the force in the world wouldn't remove it. I got it to go up about 100 mm and then that was it. I figured that the clip was blocking it. I took the se...

If you have the thermostatic temperature sensors in the side of the carbe someone may have backed them off and this allows air in. Lethal.

Re: I’m loosing master brake fluid.

Little word of warning,I have heard that replacements are not always functioning correctly so keep your old ones. I have rebuilt mine and all is well. There have been issues on the little valve at end of master cylinder causing the brakes to lock on.

Re: Oil Filter

I ordered an SNG filter and was sent a round one!
They sent a replacement,a round one!
Finally I insisted they collect the old ones and sent oval.
In the old days oval ones were available from any parts shop but not anymore in UK.

Re: S3 Fuel Expansion Tank

On my UK car that drain hole goes through to the bottom as I poked a wire through it gears ago when wash water would accumulate in the area below the fuel flap. Well worth doing.Still don't know where yje tank vents to. Had it out years ago but forgot.

Hard to believe some idiot fitted the oil filter canister without checking the rubber seal and replacing it. Could have blown the oil pressure and ruined the engine.

So turn the clock back to about 1978. I've just bought my 72 V12S3. There was some clunking on the pinion shaft on power on off. Me young lad didn't like the idea of replacing the pinion collapsible oil seal thrust washer which you're supposed to do when tightening the nut, My torque wrench didn't g...

I seem to remember the nuts have a piece of wire in them that is sacrificial when you try to undo them.
