Re: re-chroming of bumpers

+1 for Howell in Walsall. Superb work and worth the wait. You also get back the parts you give them, not somebody else's that don't fit properly.

Always busy though.

Re: Buying MWS wheels

I got my MWS wheels from Watjag a few years ago. They were cheaper than buying direct from MWS thanks to the volume that Watjag took from them.

I think that, at the time, they would never use Dayton wheels on any of their restoration work. I don't know whether that changed or not.

Re: Brakes upgrade

You can't improve the braking efficiency simply by changing the servo. You only change the effort required to apply the brakes.

The answer is larger pads and/or discs with multiple cylinder calipers, regardless of the source or manufacturer.

Re: E-type illustrations - colour help

Opalescent dark blue Series1 FHC with flat hub wires describes my car perfectly. Definitely no mirror rod though.

Nice work Trev.

Re: Shock absorber colour

Matching colours is a vexed question to which there is no one correct answer. The colour 633 RAF Blue/Grey as specified in BS381C is fully defined within that standard. It is described by its colorimetric values under CIE standard luminant C along with its luminance factor. It is described for both ...

Insufficient or incorrect oil in the dashpots causing over-rapid dropping of the piston?

Re: Dayton wire wheels S3 roadster

There is an alternative to Dayton and MWS that isn't Borrani, and that is Turrino Wheels. I have met them on several occasions and they always seem to be quality and customer focused. They are pricey, although not as expensive as Borrani, but the quality is superb. I would like to have a set for my ...

Re: registration of U.S. import.

Absolutely yes, registered the car upon arrival. This is something you couldn't do before the cars became MOT exempt. When I made enquiries I was told the car needed an MOT, which I'm sure was correct at the time but things have changed so I think I'll have another go at registering mine. Regards

Re: Fuel gauge sender gasket leak

2 copper washers seems like a pointless extravagance to me. A copper and a steel or brass plain washer should be fine. Thinking about it, if the threads in the tank really are blind then a sealing washer shouldn't be required at all. In a properly designed screw joint the threads should never strip ...

JC I've got to admire your dogma. I really don't appreciate being called ludicrous but going off your track record I am not surprised by it. 40 years of messing around with cars while working in mechanical engineering obviously counts for nothing. As for blocked heater matrices, the one in my car mu...

Can't be anything else. Should take you about 5 minutes.
Unless the heater matrix is blocked. Might be wise to check that you are getting warm water flowing out of the heater too.

Shoe boxes are okay but I find these storage bins much more robust and appropriate for these kinds of job.

Fair enough. Photography copyright has long been a contentious issue. My question was really about the copyright in the article, not the pictures used in it.

There's a lot of tough talk going on here all of which I can understand but find pointless. Let's just leave it all to fizzle out, as it surely will. I don't imagine the car will be returning to Mr Giordanelli's garage any time soon. As for copyright issues, I wonder who owns the copyright on the ma...
