Re: 4 Year Idle, First Start Dissappointment

Toby -- you are so quick on updating your posts and correcting items under the bonnet, no one had time to chime in. At this pace, your Jag will be running smoothly, stopping adroitly, and winning Concours hands-down.

Re: Sandblasting bonnet

An option is vapor blasting (AKA water blasting, and a couple of other names). This system is the same as regular blasting but carries the media in water rather than air. The benefit of vapor blasting is that the surface temperature of the target is only reportedly raised 10°F higher than ambient te...

Re: oil pressure woes

I, too, have been searching for a mechanical oil pressure gauge for my Series III. This gauge is listed at McWilkinson: C18641/1 OIL PRESSURE CAPILLARY GAUGE - 6 CYLINDER ENGINES https://mcwilkinson.myshopify.com/products/oil-pressure-capillary-gauge This is the closest I have found. The good news i...

Re: Removal of Distribtor on V12 Motor

Nigel - I don't have access to my 72 Series III so I stand to be corrected, BUT I have pretty sure the Allen head screws/bolts are SAE.

Re: Numbers

You said "Im guessing not every E-type is on the XKE data website." Right you are. The web site is maintained by Roger Los as a personal endeavor (for at least 2 decades now). It is undoubtedly is the most comprehensive data available on the existing numbers of E-Types. If you click on the STATS tab...

Re: Numbers

Bernie I am familiar with the S3 but have no idea what a V5 is. In any event, guesses follow: The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is located in three locations: (A) on a metal tab (about 3/4" by 1.5") inserted between the windshield and the left A-Pillar inside the cabin (about eye level when se...

Oops - I gotta confess I simply glanced at your opening posting. Didn't pick up on the nuance of difference between the parts.

Re: Clips for balancing pipe

Here is an option but it is really a round-about way to get them: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-S3-V12-Balance-Pipe-Clip-C35077/202040565254 So (1) use US-based eBay to (2) order from Australia to (3) have them shipped to Germany. I suspect the cost of shipping will equal (exceed??)...

Re: Oil pressure gauge

Dave Thanx for the recommendation. I took it one step further and reached out to two outfits. For the Series III guys, here are two options for upgrading to a mechanical oil pressure gauge. For those on the east side of the Atlantic: as Dave mentioned above M&C Wilkinson sell a kit but it is only li...

Re: Oil pressure gauge

Can somebody (anybody) provide a one-stop-shopping website where I can find the Smiths mechanical oil gauge and sender (preferably for a Series III E-Type)? I have the stock gauge in the dash and two spare gauges: one 0-60 sq in and the other 0-100 sq in that can be converted to mechanical (or more ...

Re: Series 3 etype 2+2: cooling system

If you took the opportunity to clean up the engine bay and/or simply do not want to spray coolant across the engine bay, I would recommend first filling the system with just water. This would allow you to pressure check for leaks at the risk of simply losing water and without damaging newly painted ...
