Exhaust manifold

Dear forum colleagues, I have just found a cracked exhaust manifold on my car. I have already read an older post by Marek to replace pairs with those from new production. One question. Can I replace them wirh the engine in the car or do I have to take the engine out? Best regards Sven https://i.post...

Re: Serious miss

Hello Bernie,
very easy. there is a drain plug(screw) in the sump of your tank. Just look under your car, left side rear end under the tank. There you can completely drain your tank.
Best regards

Wheel tool

Might be interesting for some of you.
Here two pics of my new tool to remove the spinners.
No need to use the copper hammer anymore.

Re: tappet clearance

Dear Marek, everything worked exactly like you described. Only thing I found a little bit difficult was to get the bearing cap nuts back on because it's necessary to compress some valve springs. It should be easier if someone helps. But finally I got everything back in. Of course I use a torque wren...

Re: Silencers

Hi Bernie,
I just checked my set.
The front pipes have an outside diameter of 51mm and fit into the silencer without any effort.

I think you can use the silencers only with the Bell pipes.

Re: Silencers

Hi,

I would ask SNG if those parts can only be used in combination with the stainless steel pipes.
I have a complete Bell system from SNG in my garage but still wrapped.
If you need support I could measure the parts for you.

Dear Marek,

Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate getting such comments because it is the first time for me to work on a Jaguar.
I'm really happy to get your support

Re: tappet clearance

Today it was warm enough to start working on the tappet clearance. I found it very easy to take the camshaft out. For the tappets I used a strong magnet. Fortunately there is no wear visible. Thanks again for your comments. Beeing new to Jaguar the forum is really helpful for me. :thankyouyellow: ht...

Re: tappet clearance

Hello Philip, for Aluminium cylinder heads this is different. I just ask because for my actual VW van from 1989 the workshop manual show 2 different values for valve clearance. One is for a "warm" engine, one for cold. Fortunately it's too cold in my garage at the moment so I will not proceed at the...

Re: tappet clearance

By the way, does anyone have experience with the ambient temperature the Jaguar workshop manual refers to for tappet clearance adjustment?? Sven By the way, there is no temperature mentioned for measuring (e.g. 20°C) Normally the manufacturer mentiones a temperature. At the moment there are -2°C in ...

Re: tappet clearance

Thank you for the comments. Is the timing chain tensioner retracting tool necessary? It is not mentioned in the manual. The cam tool and the JD40 I have. Re: Series 3 carb removal

Hi, I think you have no chance to get a socket on the nut. Also a ring spanner is not possible. I used a normal spanner, it has not been too difficult to remove the carbs. I acessed the nut from below. Of course it took some time because I could always only turn some degrees :wrench: And then turn t...

tappet clearance

Dear colleagues, just a short sunday morning workshop question to those with more experience than I have. Checking the tappet clearance of my E I found that I have between 0.007 and 0.012 in clearance. On the A bank 5 valves have 0.012in which is minimum as I read. Because so many are out of toleran...

Re: fuel pump

Dear colleagues, time to close this post. Today I have disassembled the pump and found: 1) 1 pump chamber half filled with dirt from the tank because the pre owner drove without strainer 2) points on one side out of order because the axis for the point has been installed in a wrong way 3) one way va...

Re: fuel pump

Hi,
I think it has been "repaired" by the pre owner. Might be that this is one reason why he couldn't get the car running again.
I will install a new electronic SU pump from Burlen.

If I find time I'll disassemble the old one and take a look at the one way valve.

fuel pump

Dear colleagues, again I'm confused about my E. :seeingstars: Today I have tested the fuel pump of my E V12. The body has two markings: Top and Out (in this picture on the top of the die cast body, below the sheet metal dome). pump (002).png I thought that out means that "out" is the outlet port tha...

Re: Clips for balancing pipe

Dear forum colleagues,

seems to be that no supplier can provide the parts I'm looking for.

Basically no problem, I just wanted to have the original ones.
Perhaps I can find parts during a spares day.
Or I have to make a trip to Beaulieu autojumble (If my wife agrees  )

Best regards

Re: Clips for balancing pipe

Dear Craig, did you see my photo of the original part? The parts you mention, available from nearly all suppliers like SNG or Limora are not the ones in my car (and in the parts catalogue). They might be correct for a US car with more pipes for the emission control system but they are not correct fo...
