Re: Series 2, 2+2 full rebuild...gulp!

So….here we are! Just over 5 years later! Still some fettling problems to sort out… But had its first long run this weekend and the pleasure of taking my dear old dad out for a spin….and he loved it… Couldn’t have done it without this forum, many people kindly and patiently giving me advice and enco...

Re: Sugar scoop fitting

Thanks for all the replies. I found that the flange around the scoops weren’t very flat in places ( possibly due to my exuberance of removing them). Some light work with a rubber mallet did the trick and they all line up nicely now. Wow, fitting the chrome is fun, isn’t it? Even with 2 washers under...

Re: Sugar scoop fitting

Thanks Geoff - perhaps my search was too specific - so I’ll have another trawl through and see. It does feel that I should loosen the headlamp mounting panel and hopefully this will allow more flex. Just interested in the general feeling. I am surprised by just how far out some of the holes appear. ...

Sugar scoop fitting

Evening all, I’ve come to refit my sugar scoops and find that the holes to rivet them to the bonnet don’t line up. Some do and some not by a long way. I’m quite sure the sand blasting of the bonnet and the scoops may have led to some slight movement or change in shape. I have fitted the headlamp mou...

Re: Series 1, 2+2 Exhaust

Happily take photos for you, though mine is a series 2, 2+2. Can’t really comment on your point No.1 - engine to silencer pipes, but they really do look too short. No.2 Hard to tell from your pictures - but could it be that the you have the silencers upside down? Let me know if you need pictures, th...

Re: engine frames

The accepted wisdom is not to attempt repairs. What you can see from the outside is not going to be representative of the inside of the tubes and frames. If there are holes on the outside, there maybe paper thin areas elsewhere. Many posts on the special Reynolds tubing… I had that nasty surprise - ...

Right you are! Many thanks Chris

Out of interest - does any one know did the factory cut this hole for aircon cars and not for non aircon cars?

Aircon blanking plate?

Hello All, Removing the aircon unit from under the dash has left a rather large hole in the scuttle…. Picture attached as seen from the foot well. I can’t see any fixing points for a plate or such - is this just covered by the under dash hardura? Feels unlikely? https://i.postimg.cc/V6xswzbQ/E24-A80...

Did your car have PAS originally? If so, the lower steering column needs changing for one that is 34 1/2 inches long.
Hope this helps.

Re: Plastic air vents

David is this gentleman’s name and what a nice chap he is too. He doesn’t actually manufacture them himself, but had the inspiration to get the parts remade. I’ve already suggested he makes himself known on here as I figured there would be some good interest. He’s posted other useful YouTube videos ...

Re: washer bottle help

perhaps the SNG plastic reservour bottles and caps are OK ? would certainly get over the scrapes and discolouration of original parts................... if that is acceptable ? https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/uk/FindParts/Families/E-Type%20~2F%20XKE/3/E-Type%20S1%204.2%20DHC/81/ELECTRICAL%20EQ...

Re: washer bottle help

On the subject of these water bottles, mine looks like it can be rescued. The bottle and lid are scuffed and may need some gentle heat to ease some dents out, but overall it doesn’t look to scruffy. But rather irritatingly the little fitting that allows for the liquid to traverse the lid is missing....

Re: Fitting the new style SNG Barrett Hand brake compensator

Granted, this wasn’t the most interesting topic or thread. but for a future searcher to come across, SNG have had a problem with this part’s manufacture in that there is a permanent bias on the cables and one of the bends in the main brace is unsatisfactory. They very kindly sent me an original ‘sci...

Re: Heater control valve removal , hopefully!

Hi Grant, I faced the same issue and a ‘little’ brute force of a flat head screwdriver between spacer and the valve freed mine. I think turing the valve body itself helped too. I think a build up of calc and the rubber olive welding itself to the tube is the cause of the reluctance. Hope is goes wel...

Re: Fitting the new style SNG Barrett Hand brake compensator

Evening all, Did this get resolved at all? My compensator looks exactly the same as Allan’s - i.e. the part that attaches to the handbrake cable is at an angle, despite how far I adjust it. Like Allan, SNG only provided text instructions, which are not really very helpful and all and they seem to on...
