Re: Insulation on exhaust hoses
Actually worse rust is reportedly one of the weaknesses. I read of someone (possibly a motorcyclist) who took the wrap off and found the exhausts rotted almost totally away up near the head at the first bend. His theory was something like the extra heat did it, or the moisture held in the wrap duri...

Re: Wiring looms...an Autospsrks fan.
"Have you had issues with their products before Bobb?" Yes Richard. I bought an engine compartment harness from SNG and had several wires pull out of the bullets when unplugging them to rearrange the harness routing. I removed the effing harness and went around and soldered all connections. I also r...

Re: Wiring looms...an Autospsrks fan.
Does 'superb quality' mean the exact same bullet ends that are soldered in place as opposed to different style bullets just crimped on?

Clearance between tranny and tranny well.
I'd like to route the power cable for the starter away from the front. It seems like a long way to run a cable. How much clearance is there between the bell housing and underside of the transmission tunnel? With my engine out of the car (and in pieces) I have no way to tell. My goal is to run the ca...

Re: Roof sound deadening?
The car audio folks are the people to talk to as they use/test and generally screw around with everything in an effort to create a perfect listening environment in their cars. This link is to the biggest forum, and is the last post on a thread where an audio engineer tested all the available sound d...

Re: Gauge Bezel Paint
When I did mine a few years back I experimented with various mixtures of gloss and matte enamel model paint (either Testors or Humbrol). I sprayed them all with an airbrush. Use Testors airbrush thinner for enamel as it's goof proof.

Re: Winter is on the way
I gotta chuckle when I see remarks regarding winter in the UK. I've tuned up my snowblower, installed the studded tires on all four wheels of my Honda, stuck the bag of sand, snow shovel and emergency kit in the boot, hammered two metre stakes (painted bright orange) along my driveway so I can see w...

Re: Wax Injection points with interior stripped ?
I did an aircraft corrosion control course a long time ago when working on maritime patrol aircraft. What stayed with me was the revelation that no goo/goop/stuff/compound/chemical could be sprayed in and forgotten. They will all either harden up or dry out or lose effectiveness, and allow corrosive...

Re: Auction woes
I'm encouraged when I see prices drop. It means that spares will get cheaper as will insurance and I won't be so paranoid about driving her. I love going to the city market early Saturday mornings and just leaving her in the (mostly empty) parking lot. Generally I never worry, but when prices start ...

Re: The end for the MOT for vehicles of historic interest
You folks are lucky as your MOT (we have a 'safety check' in Canada) is done by real mechanics who are likely sympathetic to the cars. Here it's done at almost any private garage and many of them employ just some guy who's not a real mechanic to do them. They are signed off by the one (and usually o...

Which forum for S 1 1/2?
There's forums for wun, tooz and threes but nothing specifically for the 'bastard' car. Where should I ask questions that pertain just to one-and-ahalfers?
Thanks muchly.

Re: Volvo calipers
I did this 14 years ago and they still work perfectly and don't leak a drop. I'm also still on the original set of pads! I split the halves and drilled through to join the two chambers. I bought a new set from United Auto Parts ( a North American wide chain that caters to professional mechanics and ...

Re: Pulling my wires....
The Otter switch is connected. There's a separate small harness that goes to the actual switch. I'll see about shortening this harness to take up the slack. Thanks for the suggestion.

Pulling my wires....
The installation of an engine compartment wiring harness is making steady progress despite having to solder ALL bullets and replace many of the connectors due to lousy quality parts. It's fit is pretty good except at the forward right side of the frame. With all connections made there's a loop of ex...

You're probably going to hate me but every house I've owned had an attached heated garage for my baby. The wife could have anything she wanted as long as I had my garage. Each time the RCAF transferred me it became a headache, but most homes over here have garages because the winters suck. Baby spen...

Re: Frustrated by poor quality product
Hi Hugo, I'd email ALL of them and ask specific questions regarding swaged vs soldered on and gauge of wiring used. I believe that most of the regular suppliers are getting their harnesses from the same manufacturer as I've seen harnesses from different suppliers and they where pretty much the same....
