Re: Steering column issues

For clarification, I did not strip this down, loose anything or sell a car. I removed my steering column from my 1969 car. (I have owned it since 1981) I am back-dating the car to Series I style, so have been accumulating parts for that purpose. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find a picture of the...

Re: Steering column issues

I went through this problem myself. Why people seem to feel the need to strip sub assemblies fully down, lose parts and then sell the car is beyond me. Never strip a part unless you are going to rebuild it straight away. Anyway, rant over, it caused me untold problems as there are several different ...

Re: Horn push

well I got a bit lucky as it happened. I found that I did have a used one with a dreadfully scratched push nd broken outer, but the ring was fine, so I rebuilt it into my original .

fingers crossed this hold together.

Re: 123 Dissy with Bluetooth

well I now have it working ok, and although I have not finally set up the advance curve by jove its an impressive bit of kit. I have upped the needles to UE from UM and already the car has developed a sense of urgency. I am beginning to think these 123 Blue Tooth Tune are a must to get the best out ...

Re: 123 Dissy with Bluetooth

thanks, I shall persevere. I have read the Jag Lovers post very interesting. It not clear whether there are pre loaded curves in the BT 123 or whether you have to make you own. ah well , all part of the fun I suppose.

Re: 123 Dissy with Bluetooth

thanks for the reply. It seems yo have to sit with the ignition on and the engine off to be able to get up the existing curve and then program it. I hate sitting with an ignition on whilst I fiddle with something like this, I wish it could be done away from the car. 123 instructions leave a lot to b...

Re: 123 Dissy with Bluetooth

I have just fitted my 123 Bluetooth in the 4.2. It all working ok, but I cannot see how to start reading the curves or even programming new ones! I must be missing something, Can anyone who has done this put me right please? My Iphone connect ok, and I get real time data, if I press tune I can move ...

Re: Remind me please..dash top removal

thanks John, I shall certainly consider that on my next full restoration, however replacing the hose within the bulkhead is a job I am not going to attempt at the moment. I have now managed, or rather my wife has now managed, to replace the pipe on the underside of the nozzle. I suspect it was over ...

Re: Remind me please..dash top removal

thank you Simon. I cannot say I am looking forward to this. Has anyone got any good ideas for avoiding this happening again, namely the pipe being pushed off by the pressure. I mean, its pretty much impossible to reach the nozzle with the wiper rack in position, but I thought I would ask. This is th...

Remind me please..dash top removal

I have to pull the dash top off my 4.2 as the blessed washer pipe has blown off the washer jet, no doubt due to the heat making the pipe soft. Anyway, with the central vent in the way and the bracket for the windscreen stay and the wiper rack, I am grumpy to put it mildly. Anyway, I will have to tak...

Re: Auto to Manual

thank you Chaps. I was thinking of the E type fabs 5 speed which I am hoping would come with a bell housing . Just waiting on that at present. All good stuff, I fancy a new project!

Re: Auto to Manual

Thanks very much for such a detailed reply and the links. Nobody has mentioned the gearbox mounting bracket. Is this the same on auto and manual and if not are the threads in the chassis rails already there can we say ? I had not focussed on the bell housing as being a problem but now you mention it...

Re: Auto to Manual

thanks Ole, thats a pretty thorough list and from the looks of it, there is nothing that is not sortable . I have to look into the availability for a clutch pedal which would seem the only tricking part to find. I agree on the prop shaft. I always fit new high quality props as it saves so much aggra...

Re: Auto to Manual

Thanks John, and of course sound words. The thing is I have an XJ12 Series One ( auto ) and a very early XJS, which is also Auto and both run the BW box. I find old auto boxes very dated against the auto boxes of today. I know thats not the point, but with just 3 gears it really doesn't make the mos...

Auto to Manual

My efforts to find the right Series 3 have now moved onto the possibility of buying an Auto and converting it to a manual. So given that there is a reasonable discount on autos to manuals, and in any event a 5 speed would be an attractive proposition, I wonder whether anyone has carried out this con...

Re: Ignition Amplifier

just back from a fairly hot test drive and pleased to say the problem seems to have been eradicated. So, I purchased an Intermotor ignition module. It came with the white paste and was a five minute job to remove the old one and replace it. I have to say that whilst I am up and running and its easy,...

Re: Ignition Amplifier

Thanks David. I didn’t spot you post when I last replied I have now ordered one off Amazon ! Gosh the world is changing! Sng do a kit to move the Amp to the front panel but it’s £390 a bit too rich for me though maybe next time !

edit: I bought an Intermotor 15210 which I hope will be ok.

Re: Ignition Amplifier

Interesting. It did not come from the Cap as thats below where this was found. It was between the module and the support plate. . If the Cap is designed to stop ignition clicking through the radio it didnt work as it was the worst case of interference I have ever experienced on a car. Still trying t...
