Re: Ignition Warning Light will not Extinguish

Electronic replacements dont all look like tin cans...i was just pointing out that it may look different..like this replacement for example That was meant to be my point, also.. you can't tell if it is or isn't by looking... I rebuilt mine to look original with electronic innards readily available....

The 3AW electronic replacement from SNG does look like a can, but Aluminum... same size and shape as the original.

Re: Restored Car...What to do before putting on the road.

Was the Engine rebuilt as part of the restoration? If so, you should "break it in". In my case, I used a break in oil for the first 500 miles, and kept the revs below 3000 rpm. If you don't know whether the head has been retorqued after the first run up to temperature, you should probably do that ju...

Re: distributor

After my complete restoration, including engine blueprinting with new pistons and balancing, the rebuilder had me run the first 500 miles break in on the stock (lucas) gear (Engine is high compression). After the break in period, I installed a CSI system, and set it to one of the middle maps. There ...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

October has been nice driving weather, not too rainy at all. Nights are getting close to freezing, so it's time to hang up the keys for the next few months. The big cat is bedded down for the winter sleep, having done exactly what it was supposed to do for the old man's bucket list, enjoying every m...

Here's a photo from the teardown part of my Series II restoration. Doesn't look like it has the bulge.

Re: SNG Barratt

Hi Julian~ Having passed the 3 score years and ten milestone quite a while ago, I am on the bonus round, so time has far more value than the money at this stage. I've restored and lived with a number of cars and airplanes back in the day, but not this time for the E type bucket list item. My heartfe...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

The days are getting shorter fast, nights are cooling things off, leaves are coming off the trees and the hardtop is off the wall and back on the car. Closing in on 2,000 miles of fun filled adventure, it's time to button down the hatches and riminess on the adventure as it unfolded over the summer ...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

I just noticed that it has been exactly one year to the day that I first joined the E Type Forum. A most interesting experience it has been, since day one. A great gathering of like minded cat lovers, I should add. The success of my little bucket list project contains the DNA of all who contributed ...

Mid September update.. What a fantastic 1500++ miles since July. The car has never faltered, starts instantly whether hot or cold, no problem in the mountains or in grid lock traffic in scorching heat, bags of power and torque for every situation. Here we are at Owen's shop for routine fall servicin...

Hi Dana, …. The e type is not known for the ease of getting the spare out of the boot.... Regards, Greg The hardest part is just removing the floor covering, then the %$# plywood and arranging it all on the side of the road so that it doesn't get messed up too bad. Removing the spare is pretty stra...

...I wonder why they decided to route the wires so they are exposed in the boot area? They list the two grommets in the parts book which are located near the catch which made me wonder why they would fit these unless they contained wires... Many thanks, Greg The finished boot looks OK and the wires...

Many thanks Dana. ... Was there any repairs made to the original trunk wiring?
Many thanks,
Greg

Not that I could tell. The wiring looked pretty original throughout. No Accidents, no rust, a very original California car.

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Hi Dana, .... Do you have a photo of the routing of the wires inside the trunk. I think they run between the inside rear panel and the outside panel(parallel to the rear bumper) to meet up with the two rear harness running from the front to back. I hope this description makes sense!!! Regards, Greg...

Since the shell off rebuild is pretty much complete, save a few things like the chrome surround on the hardtop rear window, I will put the completed restoration photoshoot stuff in this follow up thread under restoration stories. To all those who watched this story unfold, have a good summer.

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Mid summer check in: Car runs flawlessly, smooth as silk, loves the open road as well as the twisty parts. 1000+ miles so far. Yesterday I took it to the annual Victoria Jaguars On The Island show put on by the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria (a bit of a misnomer as many cars also show up from multiple ...
