Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Since the shell off rebuild is pretty much complete, save a few things like the chrome surround on the hardtop rear window, I will put the completed restoration photoshoot stuff in this follow up thread under restoration stories. To all those who watched this story unfold, have a good summer.

Dana, a well deserved award. Well done and it's good to hear how well the car is running. Is there still a permanent smile on your face

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Mid summer check in: Car runs flawlessly, smooth as silk, loves the open road as well as the twisty parts. 1000+ miles so far. Yesterday I took it to the annual Victoria Jaguars On The Island show put on by the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria (a bit of a misnomer as many cars also show up from multiple ...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Summertime dress of the day. The Hardtop is parked, I had a custom tonneau cover made to fit and decided to set it all up in a speedster fashion rather than put the rag top back on. I quite like the color coded upholstered trim line that the upholsterer came up with for the snaps to suit the cover. ...

Good eye tho.. Also, with the new rad core and rebuilt fans new otter switch etc., it doesn't break a sweat, so is running where it's supposed to, even on those long uphill climbs to higher elevations . So basically, the viscosity never really thins out.

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Oil pressure's a touch on the high side, isn't it? It was calibrated with a hydraulic gauge, and within 4 psi. The current Oil is a 20/50 synthetic. Also, the engine was blueprinted at rebuild, and I just finished running it for 500 miles on break in oil to mate the surfaces. The pressure relief se...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Today I took the car on a hill climb up the Malahat Highway on Vancouver Island. Here'a a video snapshot of the fully fettled car. What's not to like about it, and like the energizer bunny, it just keeps going.. and going.. and going like a new car should.. :swerve:  Up the Malahat like it'...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

Car is back from the initial break in (500 Mile) service.. Basically look at everything, tighten up, retorque, check for leaks, change appropriate fluids and so on. All good. Some general engine bay pics just for fun after the inspections if you want a fresh screensaver.. Car still looks good, and a...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

For those interested in the Burlen SU Conversion kit as discussed along this thread, Richard put together a interesting video of it all. The part I like is how smooth the engine is at the end. The blueprinting of the engine really shows. Almost looks like a still photo across the RPM range it's so s...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

I've not posted for a while - too busy putting on the miles. Here we are back at the Oak Bay Marina for the basic walk around video. The car is just a lot of fun to play with, as the regulars here already know. Now for some warm summer weather so I can park the hardtop for a while and head out tople...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

I've already done the 500 miles on break in oil etc, Burlen has figured out their Production issues with the SU's for delivery, and the car runs like a new car under warranty is expected to perform. The Universe unfolds as it should. Some relevant real world feedback: Earlier in this thread, we disc...

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

My Newbie tip for the car. Now that I'm stretching it's legs I wanted to find a reliable solution for changing a wheel simply. It occurred to me that a used BMW jack that crossed quite a few versions and models might work. I found one on eBay for about $50 that was in good shape: https://s9.postimg....

Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)

The end of an interesting 7 Month Bucket List Marathon for me. Back from Vancouver, survived the ferries, over to the Oak Bay Yacht Club in Victoria for Breakfast. 150 miles on the odometer, 350 to go for the engine break in. The car is effortless to drive, smooth as glass with bags of torque, eager...
