Re: S3 Heater Install
I imagine it is to enable you to quickly shut off the outside air supply, all cars have this? E.g. if about to drive thru dust/smoke/fumes/smelly road kill ... Difference is, other cars have the ventilation fan in the cabin with the diverter flap before the fan, not after it, enables selection of fr...

Re: S3 Heater Install
When the flap is vertical it blocks all air into the matrix, result is that all air from the fan is dumped into the engine bay and no air can flow into the cabin.

Re: IRS mounts
Btw, another use for this tool: When our cars are on a hoist with the rear wheels hanging, the only thing holding up the 330 lb IRS (380 with wheels) is the bonding between the rubber and the steel components of the IRS mounts. If the car is on the hoist for an extended time, or if the mounts are a ...

Re: bang and black smoke
Was anything done to the car between when it ran ok and when it didn't, like, could the distributor have been removed and replaced in the wrong position, or could the spark plug leads have been disconnected and reconnected to the wrong plugs?

Re: Timing? Carburation?
:yeahthat: because it sounds exactly like a blocked fuel filter, that there's only enough getting through to support gentle driving below 1500 rpm. When there's not enough fuel combustion will initially be sporadic = "bunny hopping". On the subject of vacuum signal source; imo the most responsible a...

We're making enough for 15 full sets of these:

Re: Timing? Carburation?
‘Ported’ vacuum is when the vacuum is taken from the carburettor, for vacuum advance it is above and just outside the throttle plate. There are two benefits compared to manifold vacuum: Manifold vacuum drops off as the throttle is opened. Ported vacuum, because of the relatively high air velocities ...

Re: Prop shaft doesn't fit through the tunnel!!??
I would not expect changing the flanges would affect the balance, which is mainly to correct the fabricated shaft. Was the new one sold as having been balanced, are there balance weights?

That's brave. Aim to compress the mounts close to 60 mm, i.e. by simple geometry:

Update of where this tool is at: Available to purchase as a FULL set or a HALF set. FULL set includes 8 holding plates, 4 holding bolts, 2 aluminium blocks, weighs 0.75 kg. HALF set is half of the above. FULL set is recommended for fitting new IRS mounts to all e-types, including S3’s and 2+2’s. For...

Re: Over torqued head nuts
Corrected my post, I'd previously used the wrong values for yield and ultimate stresses for bolts. So Jaguars spec is only 70% of yield, i.e. not "torque-to-yield". As I added, crazy waste to replace these studs, imo.

Re: Over torqued head nuts
Crazy waste to change these studs imo, if they are otherwise in good condition ... By my calcs 58 lb.ft torque will load a slightly lubricated (K=1.5) 7/16 unf grade 8 stud to 70% of its nominal yield strength (896 MPa). So 85 lb.ft would have momentarily caused 102% of yield strength. So what? Note...

Re: Over torqued head nuts
I’d go one step less, leave as is, 58 lb-ft, wouldn’t even change the head gasket. By torquing to 85 lb-ft you have proven your studs are still good and strong. You will not have stretched them, it would take a lot more than that. In any case, believe it or not, it wouldn’t matter if you had. Stretc...

Then, a vacuum gauge should show if there is a leak. What car is it, what state is the positive crankcase ventilation, might this be allowing in air?

Re: IRS mounts
Ok, it would be great to be able to share what it is costing to develop this thing, I’ll make them as cheaply as I can, happy for any suggestions. Kit could comprise eight of the plates, four of the bolts and two auxiliary blocks for use during compression. The plates were 3D modelled, different arr...

Re: IRS mounts
Here is my solution to the IRS mounting issue, applicable to all Jaguar IRS's, not just e-types: https://i.postimg.cc/sfYD9mXp/IMG-20240216-193606.jpg Instead of trying to compress the mounts while installing the IRS, the mounts can be pre compressed and these small plates used to hold this compress...
