Re: Seat serie2 into serie 1
Yes, série 2 instead of MX5. A terrible idea IMHO. The head rest on the S2 seats are neck breakers if you get smashed up the rear end which is why (for one reason) I went for MX-5's. That is, if they can resist any pressure. The headrest mounts only go through the top tube of the backrest which wou...

Re: The end of older car insurance?
. . . . a contract, and its terms are settled at the date that the contract is made. Precisely, and if it's terms say if you do X, Y, Z whilst driving the insured vehicle it will have x, y, z effect on the premium you pay (monthly??). Who can negotiate terms with a big insurance company? Anyway, it...

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
I have used a Thor Copper mallet on my spinners and it did leave some marking. My hide insert is almost completely flattened and really needs replacing but, as you state, the Thor description of what is needed makes it pretty much impossible. The nylon mallet works fine for me and the nylon insert i...

Re: Manifold studs to head
Go to a bolt and nut supplier (like Namrick or Sterling in Peterborough). They stock UNC/UNF studs in all normal material/plating specs.

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
:yeahthat: you'll struggle to crack you walnuts with that :bigrin: AH!! Yes. I didn't go into the garage to rummage in the boot to check my "hammer/mallet" and just went by the look of that hammer - I did not consider the weight listed but that's the type I use. It does not mark the spinners at all...

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
I prefer the Thor nylon faced mallet. It is very heavy and the nylon part is replaceable and does zero damage to my spinners.

I might suggest that "stratified" = "laminated"
Stratified = multilayered
Laminated = multilayered

Re: Lazy Starting
I have listed this theory on here before and recently have pretty much proved it to myself. When you park your E with a warm engine and leave it, most of the fuel evaporates from the carbs, more, the longer it is left alone. But what happens is it does not all evaporate but the light ends (butane, p...

Re: Copper and CuNiFer Pipes Sold By The Foot
Good find Rory, but if you'd mentioned it, I could have brought you some 3/16" CuNi and 1/4" copper from my garage. Ah well .......
Thanks for the visit, good to see your car progressing.

Re: Window wipers
I fitted the uprated arms to my car after I found that the originals just waved the wiper blades somewhere in front of the screen - rubbish wiping.
The uprated arms made all the difference and wipe the screen effectively.

Re: 2 speed wiper control
I recently fitted the windscreen wiper timer from Retronics.
I needed a diagram of the connections and got this from SNGB but the wire colours were incorrect - I reckon. This is what worked for me.
Also I show the wiper motor wire positions.

Unless you have large hands, there is no need to remove the dash top to extract the tacho. Though I have now shrunk to about 5' 6" tall, I can get my hand in behind the dash/steering column to undo the clamp screws.

Re: Fuel pump- electronic points
So, Marek, does that mean that even if I had tried, I would not be able to fit your electronic board into my newer, presumably Burlen (I don't know for certain) fuel pump? Because it lacks points? I don't remember looking that closely, some time ago.

Re: Fuel pump- electronic points
I have one of Marek's electronic conversions, which I found I did not need when I extracted my pump to find it was a new one with electronic "points". I was glad that I did however, as I found that the banjos were leaking - not sufficiently tight or missing the proper washer!! Bought some new washer...

Re: Smelling fuel issue
Do you have the correct petrol cap?
Some need a vented cap with a visible hole in it. My S2 stank of fuel until the cap was replaced with one with the vent hole.
