Re: Hello!
Hi Ralf, welcome to the forum. Would be good to meet up as I recently lost my best friend with his S3 OTS. I'm in Gretton. I shall be doing the Stilton Run on Sunday (Drive-it-day), starting in Uppingham and running through Rutland and Cambridgeshire to Stilton, just off the A1. I'll be at the start...

Re: Lazy Starting
Thank you Mich. Unfortunately there is a misalignment of the centre of the seal and the centre of the intake box which means that pulling the box sufficiently to disengage the screw threads also disengages the outer part of the seal from the filter housing. Gets pretty tricky (for me) getting it bac...

Re: Lazy Starting
Well, I started mine after what must be a 3 month or more lay off having filled the carbs some 10 days ago. Some additional fuel went into the carbs when I turned on the ignition. I pulled the choke right out and it started after about 4 seconds. Despite having uneven lowering of the main jets with ...

Re: Lazy Starting
Choke mechanism instructions on page C4 service manual...easier to get to if you remove the air filter assembly. Yes, thank you Steve. I had the triangular plenum and the "trumpets"(?) off but not the filter cannister, reckoned it was still impossible to get to the clevii :scratchheadyellow: I've p...

Re: Lazy Starting
There was a time I new nothing about SU,s then I came across this video, a bit long, it certainly helped me understand the workings of the SU's so I recommend watching it. Yes, I saw that thank you, but it does not cover setting up the choke linkage in any way and searching YouTube for such has bee...

Re: Lazy Starting
Thank you for your advices again, guys. I'm afraid my postings have illustrated my ignorance at the workings of the carbs and choke system, caused by my casual scanning of the data looking for a dimension for the lifting of (what I now know is) the fast idle pushrod. I have now read the service manu...

Re: Lazy Starting
From memory, each lever holding the mixture screw should be pushed up at least 5mm. I should be able to test and measure later today. Obviously, all three should be lifted by the same amount. If they don’t, you need to adjust the inter-connecting choke rods. Thank you Simon, I will look for that, b...

Re: Lazy Starting
Jerry...Read Geoff.s post again....he refers to a new poster.. as per the original poster who never replied..Steve Thank you Steve, and apologies to Geoff for my mis-reading. Clearly, to me, my main jets are not being moved down equally by pulling the choke knob out. My query really is: by how many...

I suppose it could also be an April Fool’s :lol: NO, IT IS NOT! This is a classic case where a new poster asks a question and doesn’t seem to have bothered reading or at least never bothered to say thanks to the various people who have posted responses :banghead: at least it may have helped others ...

Re: Lazy Starting
I am re-looking at this before I start my engine after some 2 months sleep. This is because of the article and letter in the latest E-type club magazine. Article by Darren Hughes, letter by Bob Alexander which got me thinking and wondering if my choke is working properly when I pull the lever on the...

Re: Seat serie2 into serie 1
Yes, série 2 instead of MX5. A terrible idea IMHO. The head rest on the S2 seats are neck breakers if you get smashed up the rear end which is why (for one reason) I went for MX-5's. That is, if they can resist any pressure. The headrest mounts only go through the top tube of the backrest which wou...

Re: The end of older car insurance?
. . . . a contract, and its terms are settled at the date that the contract is made. Precisely, and if it's terms say if you do X, Y, Z whilst driving the insured vehicle it will have x, y, z effect on the premium you pay (monthly??). Who can negotiate terms with a big insurance company? Anyway, it...

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
I have used a Thor Copper mallet on my spinners and it did leave some marking. My hide insert is almost completely flattened and really needs replacing but, as you state, the Thor description of what is needed makes it pretty much impossible. The nylon mallet works fine for me and the nylon insert i...

Re: Manifold studs to head
Go to a bolt and nut supplier (like Namrick or Sterling in Peterborough). They stock UNC/UNF studs in all normal material/plating specs.

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
:yeahthat: you'll struggle to crack you walnuts with that :bigrin: AH!! Yes. I didn't go into the garage to rummage in the boot to check my "hammer/mallet" and just went by the look of that hammer - I did not consider the weight listed but that's the type I use. It does not mark the spinners at all...

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
I prefer the Thor nylon faced mallet. It is very heavy and the nylon part is replaceable and does zero damage to my spinners.

Re: Registration in Italy rejected - EEC-homologation - help wanted
I might suggest that "stratified" = "laminated"
Stratified = multilayered
Laminated = multilayered
Stratified = multilayered
Laminated = multilayered
