Re: Valve clearances that change
Hi Phil..yes sounds like simple maths but we're talking thousands of an inch...yes you torqued the bearing caps but what torque were they befor? Did you look close at the shims. Typically a slight circular indentation forms where they sit on the valve so this needs to be factored in especially if yo...

Re: Thermostat housing bypass.
Hi Paul.....you need to look inside your thermostat houseing where the foot of the thermostat meets to block off the bypass from the waterpump...if a prebious owner has removed the thermostat they may well have blocked the bypass....Steve

Re: Thermostat housing bypass.
That is not the bypass its the air bleed vent..havent seen that little "jiggle pin" in there before but its quite typical for them to be fitted to a thermostat. It lets air bleed back. The thermostat isn't stuck in the houseing that you've removed is it?.. Steve

Possibly the adjuster is seized...try giving it a few taps...even if you can't slacken the chain you may still be able to dismantle both sprockets on the camshafts...Steve

Re: Timing chain tensioner
Why have you removed the bolts holding the cams to the sprockets...what are you trying to do... to adjust the upper chain you slacken the adjuster center nut...fully press in the locking pin.. look close the pin has serrations..press in till they dissengage..then you can turn the adjuster clockwise ...
