Re: hood frame fouling B post trim
Some photos of a factory original car I took for reference if they help, others also elsewhere on the forum in the factory original section :drinkingcheers: https://i.postimg.cc/tgHVxMfW/130401-A8-B17-D-49-AA-BD56-0356-AF51-C249.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/yx5DYQcJ/132-C2-BFC-3998-4-F76-A102-EF71-C9273...

Re: hood frame fouling B post trim
The BAS trim pieces aren’t a great fit or a perfect copy of the originals, I’m going to either re shape and recover mine or dig out the originals and recover them, you may also find the door fouls the b post trim once fitted up and the shape of the vinyl covered aluminium piece in the top of the doo...

Not essential but it’s not the most fun job on the car and I’ve since tweaked the ride he...

Re: Cleaning wheels
I’ve tried Maguiars and Autoglym, both good but the Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner seems to work a little better for me. I take the wheels off a couple of times per year, go over them with the cleaner and a fine soft brush, jet wash them and then blast dry with compressed air. They do stay better for...

Well my standards are obviously not that high Barry
- fortunately they seem to be high enough to have achieved a fair few concourse wins over the years

Re: Cover for car
Another long term user of covers here - mainly to keep the cat and spider droppings off the car. Never had any problems with microblistering but I do keep a dehumidifier going through the bad weather which costs very little. Covers of choice for the last few years have been Tesco value ‘non-fitted’ ...

Re: Boot lid springs
I had the same problem with new springs, I’ve got hold of some new old stock springs which appear to be better quality, will either replace them all or add a spring each side as suggested above. I don’t think it’s a problem with the bootlid having paint on, more likely to be rubbish repro parts, the...

Re: Adjustable reactor plate experiences
Thanks for the replies. When fitting the Ron Bere plate did you have to release front ball joints and track rods etc to remove tension or was it possible to leave the torsion bars set under tension with bolts / dowels and remove the old reactor plate as you would if removing the engine & box for a c...

Re: Rad & fan install
I’ve mounted a Davies Craig fan in the gob on my car fixed to the stone guard pushing air through the radiator (it’s got a reversible blade so can be used as a puller and fitted inside the original fan cowl if needed but you’d have to make brackets). I also fitted the Davies Craig control unit which...

Re: Air filter - again...
Looks like an XK150 ‘S’ air box, particularly given the fuel bowl mount position in which case there are several off the shelf standard and performance elements available.

Adjustable reactor plate experiences
I’d like to tweak the front ride height on my car up a little bit and miss the easy adjustability I’m used to on XK’s. Has anyone fitted one of the adjustable reactor plates from the likes of Rob Beere? How much height adjustment do they give you without having to reposition the cams on the torsion ...

Re: S1 & 420G similarity
Hmmmm interesting, I guess they could be from an Aston ££££££££ or a Rover, I keep trying to buy random HD8’s on eBay for spares but they seem to command a premium, I’m short of one of these spring anti skid washers, doesn’t seem to make any difference but would be nice to get the last piece of the ...

Re: S1 & 420G similarity
Dud info on the carbs I’m afraid. From recent memory the main body castings are not the same, due to drillings for the fast idle levers and the opposite side adjuster screws being transposed, same as they are on most (all?) other Jag SU HD8 carbs drilled for manual choke but fitted with the AED dev...
