Re: British Racing Green
No such shade as BRG as someone has already said. The E Type colour was opalescent dark green. The codes do exist but you can’t find a manufacturer who can supply to them. I just had mine painted in opalescent (a reflective Sandy grain rather than metallic particles) which looks fantastic. I chose f...

Re: Valve train noise??
Hi all, I've just been reading Alan Cochrane's recent post re noisy tappets. My 3.8 has a clatter at idle that builds then disappears repeatedly. When the engine is started cold it is silent but gets noisy as it warms up. When cruising I can here this clatter on a trailing throttle (it is a more co...

Re:
I bought the kit from XKS, as far as I can tell the quality was very good. Very good finish and heavy for the size ("machine steel"). http://xks.com/i-6917479-17-1580-hold-down-set-tappet-guides.html http://xks.com/images/M26995845.jpg Here is how I installed the kit in my '61. http://etypeuk.com/f...

Re: ANYONE FITTED POWERSPARK DISTRIBUTOR?
Yes...it is most definitely a negative earth car and ignition system. Its very frustrating and the supplier hasn't got a solution.

Re: ANYONE FITTED POWERSPARK DISTRIBUTOR?
The S1 tacho doesn’t use the distributor. It uses a drive on the cam The short black cable from the distributor module....can you confirm you connect it to the White/black cable to the coil (which is connected to the negative on the coil). I’m not sure if that black module cable should go direct to ...

ANYONE FITTED POWERSPARK DISTRIBUTOR?
I have recently installed the Powerspark electronic distributor with their supplied Viper coil and HT leads. Long story short.....I cant stop a crackling/sparking at the leads when ignition is applied. We have gone through a long list of possibilities with Powerspark and they diagnosed a faulty igni...

Re: Gearbox overhaul recommendations
I can’t remember the exact price (c £300) but it is operating fine. They had worked on a moss box from my Healey 3000 a few years before I got the E and did a good job so I went back to them to check over the E’s box as part of my restoration. gone up a bit since then. Quoted £750plus vat for overh...

Re: S1.5 Instrument Wiring
Tricky...I am halfway through converting my 1966 S1 2+2 to RHD. I cant find anything really useful about the dash wiring loom on any forum. As you have recently done this, can you please share some advice. I plan to use the original LHD loom and make any changes that may be necessary. Does the RHD l...

Re: SU THROTLE SPINDLE BENT?
It is from a 1966 S1 2+2 4.2
The Maroon V12 is my other project....but that one is roadworthy now. I am currently working on the S1 and will be all year probably. Its a good solid California car but mechanically neglected.

Re: Series 1 2+2 values
Timing is everything when buying at a good price. I negotiated and bought during the run up to Xmas (mid November) so the sellers were short of purchasers and I could afford to buy at a time of year when most are focussed on the Xmas costs. They were bargains....

Re: Series 1 2+2 values
I have a couple of points about the bonnet and eBay purchasing I bought 2 LHD 2+2s last year from US on Ebay. It was a whole new experience importing for me. I bought a 73 V12 auto numbers matching and a 66 S1 manual numbers matching. Both were original cars with absolutely no corrosion and original...

Re: Chrome dashboard gauge surrounds/rings
I saw an example of a FHC at a car show last year with chrome surrounds and it looked fantastic.
It really lifted the interior and gave it an extra look of quality.
its the only one Ive seen but I will be doing the same to the car Im restoring

S3 carpet replacement..Polypropylene or wool?
I need to replace my S3 carpet set but cant find; through any research, which is the favoured or most original material. All seem to offer Polypropylene or 80/20 Wool.
What are peoples experience or recommendations for which material?

Re: door locks
My 1966 2+2 also has the separate locks.....but no locks fitted!
I have been trying to find someone who sells them with no luck so far.
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of locks with the internal mechanisms?
