Re: New owner Greetings & Basic Questions S3 2+2 '72

Welcome to the source of all the answers to your ownership issues. I'm sure you will not regret your impulse decision and the Webasto sun roof is a must in my view on the 2+2's I also purchased my Series 3 without previously driving it or any E-type and it was one of the best car purchases I've ever...

Same for me - discovered the hard way when moved to a new house with white painted wall on the drive and next to the garage!

Re: gutter chrome trim

I had the same when mine arrived last month but they fit fine with less chance of sliding along than the one I took off. Being a sado I found it it very satisfying that such a simple replacement piece of trim made such a visual impact

Re: Problem with horn on Moto Lita steering wheel

Belated update - all sorted. The introduction of flux and the purchase of a Dremmel butane hand torch sorted me out. After numerous failed attempt previously I can not tell you how pleased I was to hear the horn again when everything was reassembled. All the advice was much appreciated (and needed!)...

Re: Problem with horn on Moto Lita steering wheel

As ever, this forum always produces sensible advice ....and explanations for my failure! My one unsuccessful attempt at soldering brass together (with a soldering iron) did not use a flux so the introduction of that will probably solve the problem. I like the fall back option to drill and tap though...

Problem with horn on Moto Lita steering wheel

So i have the wheel fitted nicely and all looking good but my patience is being tested by failure to get the horn to work. Firstly it seems odd that Moto Lita advise soldering a 17.5mm brass screw to the horn rod - I can see with the new boss that the rod is now short but having ‘temporarily trialed...

Re: Heating and ventilation

Update... gven that I had run the car for the last 12 months which was the first time it had been run consistently for 10 years I was wisely advised to also give the system a full flush through and then refilled it as quite a lot of crud had clearly been loosened by its reintroduction to the road! A...

Re: Why are my cooling fans on strike?

Well after much time, scratching of heads and expenditure we are back in full working order. It would seem that some frayed and faulty wiring led to the engine bay fuse blowing but by the time the wiring and fuse were sorted the relay had given up the ghost! Having looked at the condition of the ori...

Re: Why are my cooling fans on strike?

Fantastic answer Chris thank you - I will follow your suggested step by step approach as soon as I can get the old girl from where she is at present (parked under a flat in London) back home to Dorset. My current plan is to wait for a cooler evening and set off late at night so as to avoid any traff...

Why were my cooling fans on strike? - ** update ..now back at work!

Out of nowhere they have just stopped working and despite a cursory check on the engine bay electrical connections and the fuses I do not understand what the issue is so all ideas are welcome :?:

Re: Dayton wire wheels S3 roadster

I used Armor All Shield for Wheels which comes in aerosol form so easy to get into all the nooks and crannies of a wire wheel. Nearly 6 months and 2,500 miles later I have not needed any further application as a pre wash squirt with Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner, a go with the wire wheel brush, wash dow...

Re: Dayton wire wheels S3 roadster

I have to stick up for MWS here as I switched a year ago to a brand new stainless steel set (6.0 x 15 72 spoke) shod with Pirelli 205/70WR15 CN12 Cinturato's and have never looked back. They have improved the ride/roadholding/looks over my previous set up and they are surviving the winter very nicel...

Also check that a previous owner did not fit a manual override switch somewhere in the cabin as I have seen this done on many a Series 3

Re: Heating and ventilation

I really appreciate all the input guys and the photograph in particular is very helpful. What is not helpful on my part (and probably frustrating on yours) is that I did not get chance this weekend to try out any of the suggestions so I'm afraid you are going to have to wait until next weekend for s...
