Kelsey brake servo info

I remember seeing a nice article on overhaul and adjustment of the Kelsey Hayes brake booster but can’t seem to find it again. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? My 3.8 brakes are fully overhauled and has coopercraft callipers all round, but the performance is a tad disappointing. To...

Re: Heater duct in bonnet question

Ahh, that’s helpful thanks. I’ve always assumed it’s the original bonnet, maybe it has been replaced then. Thanks for the pic.

Heater duct in bonnet question

The very last part to fit on my car is the heater duct. The bulkhead it fits to has no holes other than those used to hold bonnet together. Only two of these would be if any use to hold the duct. Can anyone advise please? It’s a 63 car. Thanks. https://i.postimg.cc/vZzQwWyn/0-E58-E9-FF-7315-4-D5-A-A...

Re: Unequal rear ride height, sticky clutch

The matchless is a 1961 G2S, so a 250. Quite a rare one as only built for one year. Lovely little thing😊

Re: Unequal rear ride height, sticky clutch

Update 😊 The clutch issue turned out to be a burr on the stainless sleeve which was not letting the little valve seat correctly, hence with each press of the pedal some of the fluid was returning to the reservoir on the return stroke leaving the pedal increasingly low. This was identified by the guy...

Re: Unequal rear ride height, sticky clutch

Thanks all, yes, I think it can only be a slight difference in spring length/weight. Everything is new but as we all know the quality of some parts is a little sketchy sometimes. It’s certainly not rubbers tightened without weight on wheels, was very careful and only the front is really affected by ...

Unequal rear ride height, sticky clutch

I’ve finally got to take my car out for a fully legal spin after 4 years hard work. All is good with the exception of two points. It has not settled level at the rear, left side sits 8-10 mm lower than the right. Pretty sure the issue is at the back as I’ve double checked the front adjustment and ac...

Body tag location

Can anyone advise where the two ‘made in England’ and body number tags go? Removed them ages ago and haven’t got a clue.. it’s a 63 coupe, lhd. Thanks.

Re: 1963 Registration. Suffix or not?

Ok, thanks. I’ve sent the V5 back to DVLA. So long as they correct the ‘declared manufactured’ date to 63 I’ll be happy. Hopefully they’ll also issue an ‘A’ suffix plate too, or even better a dateless. Chris.

Re: 1963 Registration. Suffix or not?

Thanks everyone, that all makes sense, and explains why my March 63 car is dateless. I think I’ll still go back to DVLA and try to get the year of manufacture changed to 63, it doesn’t look good to have 63 on the heritage cert and 64 on the V5.

1963 Registration. Suffix or not?

Hi all, I've just registered my 63FHC (US Import), It was manufactured 5th June 1963 and have heritage cert etc. DVLA have issued a V5 stating manufacture date as 1st Jan 1964 and given a 'B' suffix plate. This is (I think) wrong and the car should have an 'A' suffix. However, my main question is ca...

Re: Cant rail gap at screen/A post.

Thanks, Problem has been traced to a dodgy screen, it’s too flat by about 10mm or so. When fitted the rubber is stretched outwards opening the gap to about twice what is shown in the pic. We’ve fitted the old one and it’s much better. Collecting a replacement screen from Pilkington next week, so sho...

Re: Cant rail gap at screen/A post.

Thanks Bill, good idea. Couple of pics below, but with the screen out. When screen is in its considerably worse, about 10mm. Since posting I’ve actually decided to try a different screen. It seems that in 2020 Pilkingtons (mine is dated Nov 2019) had a dodgy batch of screens, the curve was incorrect...

Cant rail gap at screen/A post.

Hi all, just fitted the screen to my 63 fixed head. There’s a rather unsightly gap between the cant rail and the screen rubber on the inside of the A post. It’s about 10mm or so and looks pretty ugly from the outside. Can anyone advise if this is how it was? Looks like it needs a sponge filler or si...

3.8 windscreen size

Can anyone help with the front screen size for a July 63 fixed head please. I think the changeover date is around then so unsure if mines the early or late size. I have sizes and measuring guide from Pilkington Classic, but my old screen seems to fall in between the two. I thought there was only one...

Glass polishing

Can anyone help with a contact for glass polishing? I’d like to use the original green tinted screen in my 63 fhc, it’s quite good, but has a few scratches and tiny stone chips. I’m unsure what can be polished or resin filled so would be good to chat with a specialist before I replace. Thanks.

Re: Help on registering a US car during Covid

Thanks for all the help everyone, think I’ve decided to send certified copies of all the documents and have the car verified first by one of the clubs. Kicking myself a little for not sorting this sooner, but I’m probably 6 months off getting her finished, so fingers crossed🤞
