Re: Radiator hose kit

Hi Pete, try your local car parts place, some one on Jaglovers kindly put up a list of gates hose equivalents.I ended up with Dayco equivalent to the Gates! Bottom hose #70389 Top hose #71011 You may have to trim a bit off the length, the last ones I installed lasted about 20yrs. Hope this helps Gerry ...

Re: Value S1 Jag e-type 4.2 LHD Roadster

Hi James,I find the E type market totally confusing, why in the world would someone pay 55k for a project series one coupe, when one of the people on this forum has what looks like a really nice series one coupe for sale at 85k?

Re: ignition condensor

Hi John, plugs points and condensor used to be a regular maintenance item in the cars of my youth,if your car is running fine I would leave well alone,a lot of suspect reproduction ignition components out there.

Hi Paul,if you want to get a good idea of what cars are actually selling for in America,Bring a Trailer is very good.A lot of detailed photos plus sometimes a video.
Best of luck.

Re: steam

Hi I would go to Harbor Freight and buy a cooling system pressure tester, goes on in place of the header tank cap so you can pressurize the system cold.

Re: Face Panel

Hi Dale, yes the lights will dim at idle, more so if you have a weak battery,on my 3.8 I found that the dynamo would keep the battery charged ok as long as I did not get stuck in a traffic jam on a hot day with the lights on,my aftermarket radiator fan would slow down noticeably the longer I was stuck...

Just as an add on to my previous post,Bring A Trailer is by far the best source of what E types are selling for in America from rust buckets to nicely restored cars!

Re: Just Joined the Forum - looking for help on buying a car

Hi Tony,I suggest joining Jag Lovers as well,a lot of good people on there some of whom might be willing to inspect a car for you if they live near by.Some insane asking prices out there, check out Beverly Hills Car Club to see what I mean, much better if you can find a private sale. Re: ADVICE NEEDED - 1964 4.2 Series 1 E-type that has a problem engaging in reverse once hot.

Hi Bill read your well presented reply, the problem to me is the fact that reverse engages fine when the the car is cold?On my own car,an early 3.8 clutch adjustment and idle speed make a big difference to the engagement of the none synchronized first and reverse gears?

Re: ADVICE NEEDED - 1964 4.2 Series 1 E-type that has a problem engaging in reverse once hot.

Hi Raymondo, does the clutch biting point change when the car gets well warmed up?Reverse being the only gear without syncro is more likely to have engagement problems if the clutch is dragging slightly? Can be aggravated even more if the idle speed creeps up as well.

Re: Serious brake bleed issues

Hi Keith, feel bad for you,not much I can add given the thoughtful replies you have had already,in my Pm to you mentioned the inner tube method, which involves pressurizing the reservoir with an inner tube and bleeding the brakes in the conventional manner while maintaining pressure.A very tedious pro...

And in North America we say passenger side and drivers side just to confuse things further,of course I know what nearside means having lived in the Uk for the first 35 years of my life.

Re: Cooling fan

Hi Peter, why not order everything from Coolcat, fan and Aluminum Rad,there are members of the Jaglovers site that drive in Texas heat without problems with that set up.I live in Ontario Canada,my car can handle outside temps in the low 30's,problem is I can't!

Re: ProRace crankshaft damper - which belt?

I think there is a double row belt intended for an early 4.2 car that is a bit shorter,I used this belt and got rid of the tensioner about 15 years ago when I installed an alternator.

Re: Shipping a car from the USA

As Brit who has lived in Canada for nearly 40yrs I find it interesting that so many cars are going back to the Uk,I rarely see E types and Mk2's for sale nowadays, we did have a dealer buying everything he could in the 90's and shipping them back to the Uk and Europe! My guess now is that there are ...

Re: S1: Otter switch temp ratings?

Hi Stu,I doubt that a drop in level makes a difference,as the pipe that the top hose attaches to extends into the tank and has a hole in it that the otter protrudes into,so the otter gets continuous flow even with a low level.

Re: 4.2 series 1 5 speed option

Hi if the car is a roadster a 4 spd is fine with a 3.07 rear end,the only reason I would go for a 5 spd on my 3.8 would be to get better syncro,at 70mph on a motorway with top down you can't hear the engine or anything else above the wind roar anyway! Just my opinion. Regards Gerry 62 Ots Ontario Ca...
