Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting
Yes, you are correct. I noticed an approximately1/8 inch difference with the balance links on. It is good to reinforce that the links need to be present during fitting. Fortunately that is constant and is easily present when doing final adjustments before trimming.

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting
Danny. I had considered that but it is my understanding that the engine & transmission weigh approx 750 lbs. That would require 15 50 lb bags of sand. Not sure how I would do that.

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting
Thank you. I was asking because some have reported changes and others have not. I am getting close to the final trimming time for mine so I am a bit nervous about whether the gap has potential for changing.

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting
Politeperson. When you scribed and cut the back of the bonnet along the scuttle did you cut it to your chosen final gap? On other cars you have done have you experienced any change in the gap width once the drive train is installed and the car is back on its wheels.

Do your old dampers have more thread than the new ones? If they do I would just plug the holes in them with epoxy. and reuse them. If you really want to use the new ones make up gaskets out of very thin plastic sheeting (oil resistant) to get maximum thread engagement.
Re: Shell ID
Looks like a late 3.8 shell to me but I am no expert. If you are planning to buy that shell you need to examine it VERY carefully. It looks to have been dragged out of the elements and painted. Could be anything under that white paint. You could potentially pay a lot of money and be no better off.

Re: Rear Wheel-Arch Sealing Panels and Flaps
It is present only on the ots. The fhc has rear fender liners while the ots does not. There is a good writeup about the differences on the Monocoque Metalworks website.

Re: Difficult bonnet (hood) alignment.
Classic Jaguar in Texas makes a bonnet hinge for this problem. Before making any changes however it is important to get the bonnet fitting as closely as possible with original pieces and check all of the fitting points. Wheel arch to sill. Lower rear bonnet bead to sill. Horizontal alignment of rear...

Re: Fresh air intake on bonnet mounting
Just a caution Bryan. The red car shown has a 3.8 housing. The 4.2 has a different style that has a pad on top so I would assume that the clearance from the bonnet is tighter than 1.5 inches. As for mounting there should be oval washers under the bolts. Look in the originality section. There are goo...

Re: What to look for in a series 2 fhc
Geoff. Sorry to disappoint you. I experienced the times. Unfortunately I was not wealthy enough to own a real muscle car. Best I ever did was a Camaro with a 2 barrel carb and 2 speed slush box. Interestingly it was equipped with a 3.08 differential. Low spec cars like that were sold and used for da...

Re: What to look for in a series 2 fhc
Tom, the reason for the 3.54 ratio is that in North America in the 60's and 70's bragging rights depended on 0 to 60 times and stop light performance. Gas mileageand top end speed were only secondary. Unfortunately I am old enough to have experienced it first hand!

Re: Battery Fires
No problem. I assume it is about lithium ion battery fires. In the boating world I have read cautionary advice warning that if you have lithium ion battery storage banks you can only expect a fire to go out when you slip below the waves. No personal experience though.

Another vote for a supply of plastic tags. Much larger market too. BTW those aluminium ones look great.

Re: Black Polybush issues?
Has there been any resolution of the black polybush failure issue? I purchased a set about 2 months ago from SNG and am wondering if I should be nervous about installing them.

Re: Bonnet spring adjustment
Hi Andy. A simple fix for your bonnet is to add a couple of nylon washers to where the mechanisms attach to the picture frame. Then replace the nut with a nyloc and tighten to the point where there is a bit of resistance to movement. This will provide enough friction to keep the bonnet up.

Re: Alternator heat shield
Steve, that just shows how bad my memory is getting. I recalled the thread and the variety of theories but completely forgot that I had started the thread. Anyways, since then I have acquired an original series 1 shield and will install both it and the little series 2 one just for good measure.
