Re: I’m loosing master brake fluid.
Thanks for the replies to my problem. Can I assume the brake servo is the problem of passing fluid to the intake? Or is there any other path for the fluid that I could check. I see that there is a check valve in the system too. A rebuild kit of seals is about $60 for the servo so not to bad...New se...

Rear jacking points
I want to jack up the rear of my Series 2. I have a grinding noise that I want to isolate to the rear of the car and I would like to spin the rear wheels. Spin by hand or with the engine to determine where the noise is coming from. The noise is there all the time when the car is rolling. I would lik...

Scrapping sound from front wheel brake caliper
I changed the front brake pads and noticed when I spun the disc I was getting a scrapping sound from one brake disc. I have been hearing that type of sound when driving and sound like 2 pieces of fine sandpaper rubbing together. And it goes away when brakes applied. I saw from the book to keep of th...

Re: Head light removal
Just go the headlight ring off. Minor chipping of the black rubber/plastic behind the ring. I like the idea of checking voltages thru side light. Also, I ordered a official manual and suggested by all of you. I was a Air Force fighter jet mechanic and I know better. I was just being cheap. Voltages ...

Re: Head light removal
Thanks to those who gave the secret of getting to the headlight ring. I have a minimum manual but show no exploded view of the headligh assy. I didn't want to damage any of the paint in the area. I have gone through 3 alternators in the past year as the diodes keep blowing. The latest one lasted abo...

Head light removal
I need to check the voltage at the headlights. They are very dim right now and the alternator diodes have blown. I don't have a maintenance manual and all I see is one screw holding the ring around the hood opening. If someone could get me started getting the lights out it would be greatly appreciat...

U-Joints, Drive shaft and Half shafts replacement
I have a mild grinding noise that happens all the time the wheels are rolling. It was diagnosed as a failing u-joint by and respectable mechanic. Is there a way to lube or replace with out a big engine or rear end removal?

Re: Dip Stick bottoms out before it is completely in
Checked the dip stick today and found the stick was at about a 15deg angle causing the tip to miss the hole in the baffle. Now reads correctly. Thanks.

Re: Dip Stick bottoms out before it is completely in
Thanks for the info. I was thinking it had something to do with the baffle in the pan. I have not had time to look at it now that is for tomorrow. I have had the car less than a year but next month, May the year will be up. I saw there was a baffle in the pan but not sure how it is attached. Let you...

Dip Stick bottoms out before it is completely in
Changed my oil for the first time and found that the dip stick would hit something before it was fully in. It showed some oil but would never show into the crosshatched area even though the correct amount of oil was in and engine started and let sit for 5 - 10 mins. Any ideas of what it could be hit...

Re: I'm new here....Elliott
Hi Ash, Just saw you post as I didn't look through this section. Yes I had the alternator bearings replaced and it fixed the noise but the alternator didn't work properly. A long story is I bought a Bosch copy from Ebay and it never worked no mater how I wired it. After 2 months I took it to a Briti...
Re: Altenator
Thanks Tom
I found the same thing here and with Google. The cooling isn’t a big problem but something to watch.
I’m not going to worry about it.
Thanks

Re: Alternator rotation direction
I am planning to install a new modern alternator with internal regulator. My 69,S2 with A/C moves the alternator mount to above the center pulleys backwards. So the rotation in that configuration is reverse of the normal mount place (left side of motor). Will the Lucas model alternator, suggested in...
Re: Altenator
Steve, I apologize for no getting on with a replacement. I think I saw it just as we were leaving for an Alaskan cruise. I had a guy rework the old alternator and I am going to try that one first. I am struggling with the way it is suppose to go together but I have to give it one try and if not work...
