Re: Oil pressure gauge erratic.

Richard- To prevent oil from draining from the sump, don't remove the 3-nut fitting that connects the bottom of the pressure relief drain hose to the sump. For extra assurance, leave the hose connected to that bottom fitting. (loosen both hose clamps and slide the hose downward to remove it from the...

Re: Oil Routing at Filter/Engine Interface --Mystery Hole

Andrew, I apologize for not realizing your reply included a link to that very same part and part number. I was so amazed by the global reach of this E-Type community--I posted in the U.S. and in less than 24 hours got the help I needed from Australia and the UK--that I failed to see the link you pos...

Re: Oil Routing at Filter/Engine Interface --Mystery Hole

Thank you, Andrew and Steve, for your quick replies, which were invaluable in helping me sort this all out. Andrew, you're right: a threaded plug with a slotted top--as shown in Steve's engine block photo--is missing. I now hear that it's not uncommon for this plug to be forgotten in engine rebuilds...

Oil Routing at Filter/Engine Interface --Mystery Hole

This is a photo of the engine block (3.8L) where the filter head is attached. A new gasket (same configuration as the previous one) is in place for reference. Can anyone identify what should be in threaded hole "C"? It's internally connected to the same passageway as "B," so it seems there should be...

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting

Grayjay66 As a former engineer I’ve really enjoyed following this thread. I applaud your perseverance and the efforts of this community to identify the source of the Zeus binding. Most of the questions, suggested things-to-try, and possible causes seem to have (appropriately) been in two categories:...

Re: Repro Tool Kit Question

Just FYI--There's an interesting thread on the Ferrari Chat forum about fake tool kits. (Original tool kits for some of those cars apparently go for as much as $20,000.)

Re: S1 headlight chrome fitting

I’m sure others have observed this obvious irony: Jaguar created the most beautiful, artistic, eye-catching and absolutely perfect chrome headlight rings to surround and emphasize the weakest headlights since brass-era gas lamps. To me, this seems to be an even more appropriate subject for the famou...

Re: Repro Tool Kit Question

I apologize--When writing my #4 post I had not fully looked through one of Steve's recommended threads (viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6394), which is a trove of information on tool correctness and originality, and also includes links to other relevant threads. I now understand the difficulty and complexity o...

Re: Repro Tool Kit Question

Thank you Steve and Andrew for your replies and additional info.

At this point, though, I've already bought a tool kit. I'm just curious if the tools in it are originals or repros. Any ideas on how to tell?

Thanks,

Bill

Repro Tool Kit Question

The repro tool kit recently described in a "New Reproduction Parts" post seems to be an outstanding deal: http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6798&start=60 (post #67) I readily paid significantly more than that for a like-new kit that was described to me as "original tools in a repro pouch....

Re: Cold start issue

Check the thread "Stuck Choke (Enrichment) Mechanism." It may be of help. Also, unless all the enrichment jets are frozen, you can lift the external enrichment lever on one carb (with a wire or bent rod) while someone cranks the engine and it should start. In addition to starting it when nothing els...

Re: Starter Disengages Prematurely

In case anyone else has starting problems with the same symptoms I experienced, I want to close the loop on this thread with my troubleshooting results. After preparing to repair or replace the starter motor, it now looks like the hard starting was actually due to a carburetor issue -- specifically,...

Stuck Choke (Enrichment) mechanism

After months of difficulty cold starting my S1 3.8L, it looks like I finally found the culprit (with much education from this forum). I had initially thought it was the starter motor disengaging prematurely each time the engine fired, but it now looks like the enrichment mechanism on one of the carb...

Radio Repair and Upgrade in U.S.

Just want to put in a good word for Cruz Classic Radio in California (www.cruzclassicradio.com). They repaired the non-functioning BMCD radio on my 1963 E-Type and replaced all the old capacitors. They also upgraded the radio with added circuitry (but no visible alterations) so it can connect to my ...

Thanks for the guidance re 5 amps. Are radios therefore typically connected to Fuse #4 (the only 5 amp fuse)?

Which fuse for radio?

When I acquired my 1963 E-Type, the radio power wire had been disconnected from the fuse box, and the radio had a note saying "excessive current draw." I sent it out for repair and just got it back. The power wire has the proper female spade fitting at the end, so it can physically be attached to an...

Re: Fuel gauge sender gasket leak

I want to second Mark's comment that you need to be careful and not over-tighten the bolts. Not only do you risk stripping threads, but excessive tightening can actually raise the metal at the attachment points and distort the entire flange on the fuel tank, leading to more sealing problems. I found...
