Re: Steering wheel and gear stick restoration

Just looked on my garage shelf. It was actually Danish oil, not teak oil, that I used. I’ve also heard you can use Tung oil for a similar effect, which I believe is what is used on rifle butts by the military, as it doesn’t go sticky. Thanks Tom! Just in time, on Amazon ordering some Nitromors, wil...

Steering wheel and gear stick restoration

Hello everyone, I've got a few questions if anyone has the time to respond. What's the best technique for restoring the steering wheel? In particular, the wooden part? Ours has become a very dark colour, partly because it has been varnished very badly to match an aftermarket Momo gear stick & knob (...

Series 1 4.2 Roadster light restoration work in progress - Italy

Here's an update on the restoration work. They found some rust, but not too much to cause any major problems. The rust on the door looks to me like we caught it just in time, eek! I have been using BAS International, SNG and The Jag Shop for replacement parts during the restoration and can say they ...

Re: Registration and value

Thanks for the responses everyone, that's put me straight, so thank you. The restoration is going ok thanks Geoff, as far as I know, haven't received any updated photos of the paint work that's due to be completed by the end of the month. Just ordered new seat covers, foams, centre console and new h...

Registration and value

Hello everyone, I've a question about registration plates and value if anybody can help. We are due to register our car in Italy this spring because it spends most of its time there. At the moment it has its original UK plate from 1965. Does that have have a value when associated with the car, or is...

Series 1 4.2 Roadster light restoration begins in Italy

Hello everyone, just sharing some photos of the beginning of a light restoration of our Series 1 kept in Italy. We plan to fix any rusted body parts, restore the original Carmen Red paintwork, re-cover seats, replace soft top and make sure little details are brought back to the original, ie: Gear kn...

Re: Series 1 4.2 roadster gear knob original

Thank you for your insight everyone, I have tracked down the knob that 'apparently' came fitted to the car when it was bought by my father in '65 from dealership in Park Lane London (sorry about image quality). That's as far as he can remember, anyway. I have always had my doubts and as a child, rem...

Series 1 4.2 roadster gear knob original

Hello everyone, does anybody know if the original gear knob for a Series 1 4.2 roadster should be the round metal one, or the leather one? There's an old leather one knocking about at home and I'm confused??? Any clarification gratefully received. Thanks, Si https://i.postimg.cc/1tQmLQrf/Screen_Shot...

Re: Hello everyone!

Hello everyone and thanks for the invaluable advice and information on the above, I must admit some of it moved me. I didn't quite realise what we had on our hands. We shall have to think long and hard before restoring it in any way. It would be great if we could give it a very good professional pol...

Re: Hello everyone!

Hi again John, Sorry the pictures aren't ideal, but I think they show the state of the paint well. The sun has had its go at the paint over the years and from what I know, red is affected by sun damage more than most. https://s7.postimg.cc/6608voaff/20160720_185429.jpg https://s7.postimg.cc/53q2d7jx...

Hello everyone!

Hello, I'm Simone, please to meet you all. I'm in the very fortunate position to have grown up with a Series 1 E-type Roadster, 4.2, 1966, Carmen Red. It was bought by my father and his uncle back in 1966 and has been part of the family ever since. It has been kept in Italy for the past 30 years. My...
