Re: OBL = $565k

However, we could never bill for every hour we put in. 4 hours to adjust a door? Could be more! Yes, but experienced professionals like you also only need to order a part in once. My experience of ever trying to do anything myself is as follows: 1st Order - Realise that I've ordered the wrong part ...

Re: OBL = $565k

By the way, this is the abridged version of my hours: https://www.butlinclassiccars.co.uk/index.php/10

In terms of the main 'grunt' I would think fairly representative of all the hours needing to be spent sorting out the bodyshell before work on the oily bits and shiny stuff can get underway.

Re: OBL = $565k

Thanks, Richard And as Geoff rightly says, we've seen for ourselves and enjoyed following the exceptional results that those hours of yours have produced. Highlighting your restoration also makes me realise we should also factor in the fact that the home restorer will also spend additional hours bec...

sourcing original parts? As in spinners, bumper seals, bottle caps, mirror stems and key fob? Point taken on the bonnet though. I think in general my point is that whilst the costs of a full-blown professional restoration will vary greatly - driven by the hourly labour rate - the actual nu...

Re: OBL = $565k

Overriders look a bit on the wonky side? Out of interest, we see a number of these cars advertised as 'subject to a blah-blah-blah number of hours' restorations. I'd be interested to know what other people's experiences of professional restorations are, and maybe Angus's too as he obviously has to k...

Excellent! And there are those who would have it that we should scrap all cars and build and buy new ones once they reach 10 years old or pass 70'ish thousand miles.....

Re: Acoustic Cameras

Actually, scrub that: the noise that really gets on my t*ts and wakes me up at stupid o'clock every morning is the Song Thrush that insists on perching on top of the willow tree and announcing its presence to the world. Honestly the bird song (and fox cries) round my part of the world is so bad that...

Re: Acoustic Cameras

Will the new technology also apply to the Police helicopter that regularly overflies my house at low-level at four in the morning and wakes everyone up?

Re: Acoustic Cameras

I'm reminded of the scene* in Basic Instinct: "What are you going to do? Arrest me for smoking?" So presumably having gathered the recorded data they're then going to do what with it.... charge you with the hitherto little-known offence of 'driving a bit too loudly'? Fear not though - history...

Wheels can be immensely strong and resilient - but only in respect of forces applied in the direction for which the particular wheel was designed.....

Great photos! Looks like you had a superb time (hard not to really! ): there's something about Spitfires and E-types that definitely makes them belong together.

(PS Geoff: good Spitfire knowledge! 8-) )

Re: JLR to be sold?

Eeek! It's bad enough that they already lump all the Jaguars and Land Rovers together in the Goodwood Revival car park. Don't tell me we're now going to have to muck in with all the Peugeots and Citroens as well.....
