Only just seen this. Very sad news. Always very knowledgeable and 'correct'. He sent me a very nice PM a few years back after I'd been off-air for a while due to illness. He'll be missed.
Rest in Peace.

Re: Tracing an E-Type Series 3 for a friend
The original chassis number quoted will not be wholly incorrect. The 'P' prefix denotes power-steering - relatively uncommon on a Series 2 car.
Late '69 (which from the chassis number will likely be right) to Feb '71 was a long time for the car to have sat around unsold

Re: Panel gaps at the factory
Just to add for context that by that point the car would have had around 70-80,000 miles under its belt - although the passenger door would have seen far less use than the driver's door of course.
The less said about the bonnet gaps the better!

Re: Door handles
As the owner of a Webasto-roofed car I've never bothered too much about the security or otherwise of the door locks. Any car that a child can break into with a pair of scissors........

Danny - looks like you're missing a set of the signature 'ovaloid' washers from under the bolts on your snail (picture taken from the S1 3.8 Factory Original thread):

World Car-Free Day
Today, apparently, is World Car-Free Day, when, according to an email I've received from Transport for London and the Mayor of London*, each year people around the world celebrate by leaving their cars behind and enjoying freedom from motor traffic, whilst children dance and play in the streets (not...

Re: Back hatch cable - info please!
I've had this happen before. Before you start dismantling things, check that the problem isn't solved by simply pushing down firmly on the hatch with both hands directly above the area where the latch is located (you might need to bump it a couple of times whilst doing so). With luck the catch reeng...

Re: Rev counter
Had you recently topped up the coolant? They will happily burp out any excess via the overflow pipe that comes out of the neck of the expansion tank if so. Perfectly normal.

Re: Rev counter
:yeahthat: A surprising amount of "mission critical" stuff runs through the No.6 fuse: brake lights, horn, cooling fans, and rev counter. Easy enough to check for - see if your horn's working, and if not just bear in mind that your brake lights won't be working either. Change the fuse though and imm...

Re: Series 2 aesthetics
Just to bring this long-running thread finally to a close  can I just point out that I've managed to achieve a life-long ambition by: i) Not only succeeding in getting a Series II on the front cover of this month's Club magazine; but ii) Getting its un-molested, un-modifed arse end on there ...
