Re: Newby

Trivia: The Factory put the E-Type badge above the Jaguar one and as a result it has become one of the few cars in history known first by the model name with the manufacturers name as a suffix; it will always be an "E-Type Jaguar". Closely pipped to be first to claim that honour by the Model T Ford...

Re: London Auction

Indeed. See here: https://www.pistonheads.com/news/general-pistonheads/jd-classics-enters-administration/38743 Whilst it's clear what shenanigans led up to it, you've got to feel sorry for all the undoubted fine race and restoration specialists who work there and who currently face great uncertainty...

Re: London Auction

Positioned strangely close to the Bonhams Goodwood Revival auction. Might that have been a factor?

Re: Door mirrors

Also bear in mind that, as a car driver, the "life" the life-saver saves might not necessarily be your own..... I don't know of any cars whose mirror coverage is immune from blind-spots. Even my bang-up-to-date family car with huge great elephant-ear door mirrors recognises this fact with visual and...

Re: Door mirrors

Please, please, be careful. If you want an example of how it should be done.....watch ANY global coverage of ANY type of racing. With camera's mounted everywhere inside the car, if you watch carefully, you will notice the driver constantly moving his eyes in an effort to stay completely aware of al...

Turning your head to look back to see if a lane is clear is dangerous.
Except that you have to turn your head anyway to check the inevitable dangerous blind spot left by the mirrors. Known in biker circles as a 'lifesaver' check - and with good reason....

Re: Series 1 cam cover nearside

At the risk of confusing things even further we could describe it’s position in the way it is referenced in current automotive design & engineering CAD geometry terms... X Y & Z coordinates! X - length, Y - width, Z - height. With Y0 being the centre of a vehicle, -Y is ‘near side or left and +Y is...

Re: H&H Auction Quad Headlamp Car

I believe there were only two such bonnets made to order (the two customers were related) According to the auctioneer's site, I see that the original owner of this particular car was the Earl of Cawdor. How splendidly Macbethian. Presumably the other bonnet was therefore made for the Thane of Glami...

More interesting info: " the upper edge of the right and left spokes on original wheels are not completely horizontal and this was a Jaguar design to counteract the illusion created by the tapering spokes and the need for the upper spokes to appear horizontal giving the symmetrical ‘T’ configuration...

I'm struggling to get my head round how you get out at 125mph and pump in those extra 8psi ready for the onward charge to the vehicle's maximum!

Re: tyre pressure

Agreed. I've got Aquajets on my S2 and 32 all round seems the best setting. I've tried higher but it doesn't seem to suit the car as well - can't imagine what it would be like at 40 all round therefore!

Re: Current values

I was at a Brooklands auction about two years ago when a near concours (there's always room for improvement in my book  ) Series 2 OTS sold for £125k - if that helps give some indication? E-types do seem to have an extraordinarily wide spread of prices - even within the various 'subsets'. Howe...

Oil pressure's a touch on the high side, isn't it?
