Re: MOT no more?
Two possible future ongoing uses for a 'voluntary' MOT: It serves as ongoing official verification of the mileage - maybe useful as part of the car's history should you ever come to sell, and likewise maybe useful for demonstrating back to your insurance company that you are keeping within your annu...

Re: Non-eared Spinners
So although both earless, one is without two ears and the other is without three ears?

Re: Non-eared Spinners
Grazie! That's kinda what I thought, but (unless I'm reading it wrong) the SNGB website seems to list them as the three-lobed C28684/C28685 throughout.

Non-eared Spinners
Would anyone happen to know if the S2 non-eared spinners and the non-eared 'Continental' spinners fitted to certain earlier export models are one and the same?

Re: Switch surround
Yes, it's just silver paint. Deep breaths, steady hand, fine brush, well thinned paint* - you'll be fine

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
Hi Simon....who is DSJ......what is the book you refer to...Steve Apologies - Denis Jenkinson, most famous perhaps* for looking not unlike Peter Crespin (I believe there's even a photo to that effect somewhere) The book is "Jaguar E-type 3.8 & 4.2 6-cylinder; 5.3 V12" by Osprey Publishing....

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
Right. As I thought, pp.97 & 98 of DSJ's book show that the treatment shown on the Willow Green car on the Sotheby's link is correct and original. I've looked again at Chris Rooke's book too: you're right and I was confusing myself  Chris's are wrong - but not for the reason he thought. He c...

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
A case of you say potato, I say aubergine then  I'll see if can dig anything else up. As an aside it's interesting to see that the owner of that Willow Green car has addressed the issue of the rear 'trailer board' that seems to offend so may by the simple expedient of painting it satin black :...

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
'After restoration' don't count  - and besides that's an S1 rubber isn't it? There's some useful reference shots on this supposedly* unrestored example - and judging by the way the rear rubber has perished I'm prepared to believe that part at least is what was on the car originally: https://...

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
You're right - unfortunately I can't link direct to the photos on Angus's site, but if you go to http://www.mossjaguar.com/projects.html and find and open up the original images they come out much bigger and (hopefully) clearer. It's always worth having a browse around that section of Angus's site a...

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
Just to add that although not quite the ideal angle, these photos of an unrestored S2 2+2 "Arsemodell" ( curious ... ) just posted up on the For Sale section would seem to suggest that the original S2 bumper rubber treatment was the same for the LWB cars as the SWBs: https://www.blocket.se/...

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
Hi Steve AFAIK, original spec for the S2 FHC and the S2 OTS is for the rubber to be finished off in line with the leading edge. This would make sense as (a) the thicker S2 rubber is not easy to wrap round like the thinner S1 rubber, and (b) there's not enough room between the bumper and the wheel-ar...

Re: Rear Bumper Rubber
They don't fold back under the bumper on an S2 - instead they finish off in line with the bumper's leading edge.

Re: Chrome wires
Funnily enough, it turns out I wasn't in any great hurry to photograph my wheels in their original state, but I have managed to make this crop of one of the wheels as the car was rolled out into daylight for the first time in just over 20 years to serve as the 'before' shot: https://s9.postimg.org/t...

Re: Chrome wires
They can be pretty far gone. I'll see if I can dig out a photo later, but I don't think I've ever seen wheels worse than mine, and certainly I thought they were gonners, but they were professionally restored and here's a close-up of how they ended up: https://s14.postimg.org/nj0h9wckx/20170930_16121...
