Re: Series 2 DHC Blue Reg 3WBJ - Circa 1980

That's on account of wot, being a Colin Chapman product, the mesh the numbers was attached to was also sourced from the same cheap hardware store as the numerals...

Fantastic cars though. I used to have Special in yellow just like the one in the photo. Happy days....

The Europa Special had it best. Cheap house numbers and letters, available from any hardware store, clipped to the protective mesh inside the 'mouth':

Ah-ha. If anyone knows what they're doing it'll be Angus, but does that not further restrict the S1's already fairly heavily taxed flow of cooling air?

Personalised number plates are great. How else would Surrey divorcees be able to tell their Range Rover Evoques apart in the gym car park.....

Re: Engine chugs when power is taken off

There's a similar story years ago about a lady complaining to the garage that her Morris Minor was running rough. The car went in and out several times but the garage couldn't detect any problem. Eventually when she came back yet again they suggested she drive one of their mechanics and see if she c...

You're forgetting that we're British. We're born with a unique ability to get all nostalgic about things we're too young to have experienced or which never actually existed.....

Re: Thought and Contemplation

Not sure it quite works like that. There are plenty of cars from the '20s and '30s that are still very collectible and still command very high prices (and only yesterday I received a Bonhams catalogue with a very nice Stutz Bearcat in it). Any other central (zone 2 anyway!) London owners here? Yes, me! Funnily enough, one's 22 year old daughter, who really can't see what the big deal is about the Old Man's old car, went to a party over Christmas and was slightly horrified to find that the lad who was hosting it had a massive...

Re: Looking for my old E-Type reg "XKE 75"

To be fair, although I don't know him personally, through many years of reading Auto Italia I know of Roberto - he's one of the best current motoring journalists around, a pretty decent racer in his own right, has driven more Italian cars (road, race and rally) than you can shake a stick at, and own...
