Re: Fitting a Vacuum Advance Module

Hi Simon, Love the mirror idea it will certainly help. Fortunately I have a lift in the garage so access is not too bad and yes I do have a good timing light but like you I will be timing it by myself so the mirror idea is most welcome. Also many thanks for taking the time to send photo's. Cheers Ge...

Re: Fitting a Vacuum Advance Module

Hi Simon
Many thanks for the excellent tips I will definitely take on board your good advice.
Jaguar didn’t do us any favours by locating the timing marks under the car as far away from the dizzy as possible.

Fitting a Vacuum Advance Module

I have a 1972 V12 Roadster I have purchased a DAB113HE ignition conversion kit and following advise from several posts on this forum I have also purchased a JLM519 vacuum advance module so that I can replace the vacuum retard module that comes with the conversion kit. I am looking for advise on how ...

Re: Trying to locate BD38047 Seal retainer

Thanks Colin for your reply, I was aware of this set but I was hoping to be able to purchase just the part needed rather than the whole set and SNG won't split them.

Trying to locate BD38047 Seal retainer

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know who may supply part BD38047 (new or used), it's the B post seal retainer channel for a 1972 S3 Roadster. Neither SNG or Martin Robey stock it.
Any help much appreciated.

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Hi Everyone, I've solved the problem and I am posting it here for anyone to reference in the future. My hunch was right the non return valve had been installed the wrong way round by a previous owner so I reversed it and she runs beautifully (wow the sound of a V12) with no petrol from the exhaust. ...

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Bob, I checked the main jets and there is no fuel squirting from them with just the pump running. With reference to the fuel non return valve when I look at the parts diagram it shows the larger connection going to the tank but on my car the larger connection is nearest the metal fuel pipe that feed...

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Just had my son in law visit who is a car guy and he agrees it is definitely petrol coming from the exhaust but we are now thinking it is something to do with the vacuum lines that is making it too rich which is inline with some of the comments I have had. I removed all the a/c equipment and the emi...

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Chris - I did answer your post but it seems to have disappeared into the ether. I will follow your advise but it will take me a while because I will have to purchase a compression tester and the coolant test kit. I don't really want to run the car up to temperature because as soon as the exhaust get...

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Philip - yes I am certain it is coming from the exhaust. There is a joint with a clamp just before it enters the 1st exhaust box and I can see it coming out of one of the slots in the pipe. There is no trace above this slot nor anywhere else on the pipe or near the pipe.

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Hi David,
Thank you for your input. Firstly I am amazed that anti freeze burns and without your article I would never have thought of that, so it looks like a head gasket change for me.

Many thanks.

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Hi Colin - no its definitely not a fuel line leak. I have now collected some of the leak into a small paint can lid and ignited it and it does burn. However when I ignited it whilst at arms length wearing welding gloves I expected it to burn with a whoosh (as petrol does) but in fact it just had a s...

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Hi Steve - yes the leak does smell of petrol but I have not tried to ignite it, probably will tomorrow. The leak is barely even warm because as I said I have only run the engine for a couple of minutes and if it was water it would take a lot longer than 10 mins to evaporate it.

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Thanks for the reply Philip, when I first spotted the leak I was hoping it was water vapour but alas water vapour doesn’t evaporate as this does.

What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Hi Everyone, I have a 1972 S3 Roadster which I imported from California, I have converted it to RHD and just completed a full restoration save for the bonnet that will shortly be resprayed. The car starts first time with a little choke but I am getting fuel dripping from a joint in the exhaust, it i...
